Check for the scanner lock of the printer and maybe it was accidentally push it.

The Visioneer 7600 USB scanner is not supported on Windows XP, although it may function properly on most systems. Have you upgraded to newer version of windows? Have you tried reinstalling Paperport? (back up max files 1st) I have had a visioneer and still use Paperport 8. Often I have problems with Windows 8 and reinstall paperport now and then.
