720 is the usual output from a DVD. Usually if you futz with the settings long enough, you'll find where most TVs can at least fill the screen by re-sampling, and SOME DVD players will have settings that will do the re-sampling for you and output 1080i, again just to fill your screen. But don't be fooled... only Blue Ray disks will give you true 1080i resolution. .

If the Visio TV has more than one input, don't forget to use its remote to make sure the correct input is selected. It probably wouldn't hurt to put a DVD into the player, confirm its running from the front panel counters) and let it keep running as you troubleshoot.
