I can't turn off my printer and I'm not using it

There is a power switch located on the right hand side panel. It is down low and towards the rear of the printer. Se section 5 on page 7 in the link below: Brother International MFC 8840D Quick Setup Guide English The static sounds indicate a poor telephone cord or connection. Check or replace cords between the printer and wall jack. Test with a telephone plugged in instead of the printer. If the noise is gone, but returns when plugged into the printer, clean the printer's telephone jack and try again. Until it is clean, the static will confuse the printer to think the line is in use.

I have a Brother MFC 8840D. The print quality is

It sounds likea problem with your paper stock. Check the following to make sure you are using a paper type that is compatible with your printer.

Recommended paper

Plain Paper: Xerox Premier 80 gsm
Xerox Business 80 gsm
Mode DATACOPY 80 gsm
IGEPA X-Press 80 gsm
Recycled paper: Xerox Recycled Supreme
Transparency: 3M CG 3300
Labels: Avery laser label L7163

??  Before you buy a large amount of paper, please test some to make sure that the paper is suitable.
??  Use paper that is made for plain-paper copying.
??  Use paper that is 75 to 90 gsm.
??  Use neutral paper. Do not use acidic or alkaline paper.
??  Use long-grain paper.
??  Use paper with a moisture content of approximately 5%.

Caution
Do not use ink jet paper. It may cause a paper jam and damage your MFC.

Choosing acceptable paper

It is recommended that you test paper (especially special sizes and types of paper) on the MFC before purchasing large quantities.

??  Avoid feeding label sheets that are partly used or your MFC will be damaged.
??  Avoid using coated paper, such as vinyl coated paper.
??  Avoid using preprinted or highly textured paper, or paper with an embossed letterhead. For optimum printing, use a recommended type of paper, especially for plain paper and transparencies. For more information on paper specifications, call your nearest authorized sales representative or the place where you purchased your MFC.
??  Use labels or transparencies that are designed for use in laser printers.
??  For the best print quality, we recommend using long-grained paper.
??  If you are using special paper and the paper has problems feeding from the paper tray, try again using the manual feed tray or Multi-purpose tray.
??  You can use recycled paper in this MFC.

The output quality depends on the paper type and paper brand. Visit http://solutions.brother.com and check the latest recommendations for paper that can be used with the MFC-8840D.

I cant fix the paper jam problem. every time i

I have had paper jams in five different places on this machine. It has jammed at the pickup point from the tray, in which case you have to remove the paper tray and pull the jammed paper out. It has jammed at the manual paper feed tray, in which case you just have to pull the jammed paper out of the feed rollers. It has jammed at the toner/drum, in which case you have to open the front cover and pull the toner cartridge out to remove the jam. It has jammed in the back of the machine where the paper feeds through to the output tray, in which case you have to open the small back panel and remove the paper. And it has jammed in the output rollers, in which case you have to reach inside the output tray and remove the paper. Then once the jam is cleared there are times when the machine has to be unplugged for up to 8 hours to reset before it will function properly.

Brother MFC-8840D printer w/false paper jam indication.

With my Brother 8840D I have had paper jams that when cleared would not delete from the display nor would the machine operate until I unplugged the machine for around eight hours. I guess it is a sort of reset or reboot.

Brother 8840D MFC printer. I get a paper jam error

Hello,

The problem is a down cracked gear on the fuser drum itself. To remove thefuser - remove the tray at the bottom and the back tray (4 screws, 2either side) lift out the phone line box on the right (looking from theback - 2 screws) and swing it out of the way (careful as cable isn'ttoo long) 2 screws either side of the fuser (long black object at thebottom) unplug the halogen lamp (white plug on left) and small 5 wireplug on right, and lift out fuser unit. Nasty brown cracked gear is onthe side where the small 5 wire plug goes. (LJ7416001 - HR GEAR 34 Ithink the part is)

You can get the part from the below link

Good luck.

Just got a new computer w/windows 7 and now my

How to get a MFC-8840/D/DN to scan to Windows 7 over the network or by USB:

First - Download the Windows Vista Full Driver & Software Package from Brother: Brother MFC-8840DN driver download page

Install the drivers using a custom install - pick only the Network scanning drivers, unless you want the other junk - no promises on how well the other stuff works.
-------
Alternatively, if connecting the MFC-8840DN to Windows 7 by USB, download the Printer and Scanner Driver for Local Connection. It is a separate download. Install only the Scanner driver.
-------

Once the Vista scanner driver is installed, you can test by running the built-in Windows 7 Scanner Wizard. Here are instructions on how to test.

As far as conversion to PDF, that will depend on the software. I am not sure if the Control Center or Paperport softwares work on Windows 7. I have not tried those. I have found that freeware STP will works fine.
Here is a link to the STP homepage.
Here is a link to how to use STP with the Brother MFC-8840DN
