Brother HL 5140 Laser Printer Questions & Answers
My Brother HL-5740 Is jamming
You probably need to clean the paper pickup roller above the paper tray. A clean cloth dipped in diluted kitchen detergent and a couple of drops of alcohol, will clean the rubber rollers. Stroke the cleaning cloth firmly from side to side all the way around all the rollers. Also clean the paper separation shoe (rubber pad) at the front of the paper tray. The last thing is to make sure your paper is dry. Damp paper sticks together
LOST HL5140 PRINTER CD FOR
Brother has the drivers and other software for the HL-5140 available for download here:
https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hl5140_all . Pick your OS to determine if the driver is available from Windows Update (Windows 8.1 and Windows 10) or as a package (XP). Note: the site doesn't include any third-party software that was on the CD. I did not see a link for ordering a replacement CD on the Brother support site.
I hope the online drivers help you use the printer.

The pages are printing off center.
A black section down one side of the page could be a couple of things.
1) The Corona Wire Cleaner (The sliding piece on top of the Drum Unit normally either Green or Blue) is not at it's correct rest spot which is where the arrow on the slider and the arrow on the drum unit meet.
2) There is something stuck on the drum or in the laser. Check that there is no scraps of paper caught up in the workings.
Printing too far to one side can be caused by a misalignment of the laser. Turning the machine off for a few minutes may rectify the problem. Otherwise the paper is placed in the tray off-center. Make sure the paper uides on the tray are set snug on the paper.
Hope that helps
Non stop paper jams
I had this same problem. I finally noticied that the problem occurred consistently on the right side of the paper feed. I discovered that a little part along the right side of my drum unit (just inside the paper feed area) had disconnected and was loose inside the drum unit itself. Once this little part was placed back into it's rightful place, VOILA! Problem solved! Hope this helps!
