Open the small cover that hides the scanner flat cable. It has to be reconnected to the main pcb.

If you have unpluged the machine and repluged it in there is only one thing left apart from throwing it away: try to do a firmware update! download will be done from brother homepage. If youre lucky it will bing the machine back to work.

If that wont do, you have to put it away, sorry (circuitboard defective!)

Try just copying something on the machine. Does it print? If so, its a computer problem try setting up your prunter software again

If you have a Brother printer please change the following:

Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes -> Right click on your selected printer and select "properties"

Go to Advanced tab -> Print Processor

Change the settings from "BRMFC" print to "WinPrint" and set default to "raw" and Click Apply

Now go back to uncheck "Keep Printed Documents" and attempt to print the coupon.

i think the heads r part of printer and not cartridgeif so they need to be removed and cleaned or replaced.

If you use the auto document feeder, the scan function will scan each page. If you are using the glass platen then in the scan software (control centre 2.0), select a multi-page option in the "save-as" file type box. The software will prompt you for the next page after each is completed until you choose "finish". No owner's manual, there should be a PDF manual on your software install manual. You will probably need it later anyway. It should give you an answer.

May be an obvious thing to check, but are any of the cartridges near empty? If they are, the printer will give the message above as it does need some ink to waste in order to flush the print-heads.

Hi, Try taking out all cartridges, unplug the printer a few minutes. re plug , turn on. with ink cover open. then close cover and wait to follow the install prompts, This should reset the printer. be sure to gently push the cartridges till each one clicks.Close cover. Please let me know if this helps!

can you be more specific, what is the error code or message.

most likely the printhead needs replacing, it is possible that it might be covered under warranty, call brother and check. also make sure you have black ink in the cartridge and if you did only 1 cleaning, you may need to do 3 or 4 to see if its better, ink has to flow through the tubes.

5A means that the purge cam stopps abnormally when it is in use. This could be of a broken cam shaft. You have to replace the whole purge unit. This is a service job to do!

If the machine hasn't been used for a long time, then I suspect the ink in the print head and/or the supply tubes to the head has dried out. Try running the print quality test/cleaning sequence a few times to see if it clears - press the ink management button on the machine and follow instructs. If after several cleans it still isnt printing, you'll have to try more agressive cleaning techniques. Search for "brother print head cleaning" on YouTube for ideas.
