Sansui VRDVD4005 DVD Player/VCR - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Incorrect disc
when it says that it is an incorrect disk it probably is. with DVD's you don't just have 1 type you have 5 different regions for which each work differently. when you play a foreign DVD in a disk drive it will say "cannot play as region is set to 1 please set to 2 or 4 to watch this dvd" or something along those lines and it will also say how many changes you have left.
this of course is with a PC so I don't know what you could try doing
Need owners manule
I found a manual at this site: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0311311.pdf .
Recording on vrdvd4005
Dear Diane This problem is possible due to to aera going over to digital transmisstionsyou will need to have a tv with digital tuner built in , if this so connect a scrat lead from your tv to to the scart socket on you dvd recorder , then with the remote control for the dvd select the scart in put this button maybe call input selector or source. in this condition you will only be able to record the progam that your are watching. if you tv does not have a digital tuner fitted you will need to obtain a digital box. If you purshase one with two scarts sockets then one can be connected to the dvd and one to the tv again only the programe being watcch can be recorded> two digital boxes will be required if a different programme than the one watched is requird to record. Hope this will Help Regards Derrick
Hey there , thanks a head for nthe help !!! Anyway
- Talked with the customer. Good discussion. This is a hardware error. Due to the fact that he had not used it in a few months this can be a very very dirty lens. Customer had a cleaner and tried it in a different DVD player and it was responsive but not in the one in question. Tried unplugging for a few minutes to no change.
- Suggested to the customer to remove the cover and clean the lens directly with a non-lint non- cotton cloth and some rubbing alcohol or lens cleaner. This may not help as the lenses go bad frequently in this model DVD player. There is always the option of sending it in to have the lens replace but DVD/VCR combo units are cheaper than a replacement lenses these days.

Tony
Will not play commercial discs:
Hi
First lets try a power down reset, unplug from the wall and leave two minutes and re-power...
If
no luck then I would recommend you try cleaning the laser lens, you can
use a DVD cleaning kit which you can buy from Radio Shack or similar or
you can clean manually.
To clean manually unplug from wall and leave two minutes
Remove cover identify the lens as a small round glass lens in the DVD tray assembly
Clean
with the glass lens with a cotton bud or similar, use a small amount of
isopropyl alcohol or do the clean dry, any other cleaning product could
damage the unit.
Remove and foreign objects in the unit
Reassemble and test
If
this does not fix your problem then there may be an internal fault in
the laser or the mechanics of the unit and you will need a serviceman
I'm afraid. Older DVD players can be uneconomical to repair so be sure
to get quotes.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
I have a Sansui VRDVD4005,
I'm sorry, but the Sansui VRDVD4005 was not designed to be upgraded or updated and Sansui no longer has parts for it. I have seen sites on the internet in the past where this machine was fixed by replacing the DVD drive, (it used a computer dvd drive), but don't have any details on this.
I hope this is helpful to you as you decide what to do next.
