Boot Problem in TASCAM 2488

Turning the power off with out going through the shut-down process will sometimes trash the hard drive making it un readable. To force format of hard drive hold down the shut down, send, shift and quick routing keys at the same time then turn power on. This will format the HD. When finished the display will show "Factory initalize complete" "please power off" NOTE you will lose every thing on the HD including the demo song.

Cant get my tapco link midi 4x4 to be found by my PC w/vista.

TapcoLINK help:I found this on www.recording.orghttp://recording.org/home-recording-forum/39765-tapco-link-usb-and-tracktion-2-a.htmlOk first thing. Unplug any USB devices not pertinent to recording when you want to record. Second, left click Start->right click Computer and select properties. Left click on Device Manager (left column). Look for your Tapco mixer and see if it has any red X or error message. It might be that it isn't completely installed correctly. Also in the Device Manager at the top, click View and select Show Hidden Devices. Look for something under "non plug and play devices" (I think) called Mackie Subunit or some garbage like that. I'm traveling so I don't have any Mackie gear to plug in to verify. Anyway, this is the bit that actually interfaces with the Windows sound in Vista and Win7. You may have to manually install the driver as Windows says it doesn't need one. Right click and select update driver. -Browse my computer for driver software-Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer-Click "Have Disk" and browse to whatever folder you dowloaded the Tapco drivers to.

2488 jog wheel not behaving correctly, jumping around.

These units have what is known as a Rotary Encoder. They're just like the volume controls on audio equipment, now a days. You can turn it all the way, and it never stops. The pulses from these encoders, are routed to the microprocessor(computer inside your unit). The encoder may be bad, or the microprocessor itself. If you'd like to enquire about repairing your unit, please contact me directly from my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

Ok, so I have a Tascam 2488 Portastudio. I've recorded my songs, done the whole pre-master thing and everything sounds perfect . . . until I burn my songs to CD. When listed to on CD players, th

I had the same issue on my 2488neo. What I found that worked for me, was during the mixdown, make sure the solid levels on the right side of the mini screen are at the top of the black line, don't worry about it sounding too loud. After your mix down is done, pick a mastering tool that best fits your style of music, during this process any levels that go over peek will be eliminated. Once your mastering is done, burn a CD, but don't finalize the CD, so you can use it again to keep checking if the volume does not match that of a regular CD (a known band CD from the store) this worked for me, hopefully it will for you as well..

How do I assign Vocal effects to a track

You assign the effects basically the exact same way you assigned the channels to inputs, except you press and hold the "MICX4" button and press the "Select" key to the channel (or channels) you want to assign the effects to. Once you assign the effects to the channel, you can edit to the effect you want, and edit the values of the effect.
Good Luck!

Corrupted Audio File on Tascam using Scandisk III 8Gb

You should be able to view the file on a computer. Select the file and delete it. Presumably there was an error after the file was recorded and all you probably have is the file name and a shell of a file. Hence it being only 30K. There is nothing you can do with the file. And whatever you recorded was lost. A 40 minute wave file would be massive. Try recording as MP3 for long files. You might be OK at 3 to 6 minutes with a WAV file.
