I have a lg model

Usually, with this problem, it's due to low signal strength. Digital TV needs a good quality DTV antenna. GOOD QUALITY cables and connectors are also a good idea. If you live in a low signal strength area, u may also need an amplified antenna.

Red and blue horizontal lines

Those are lines of pixels that are no longer properly commanded by the buffer boards. The tv will have to be completely dismantled to access and replace them - the buffer boards sit between the front frame and the plasma screen panel. You can buy them from here
http://www.shopjimmy.com/lg-42px5d-ub/
Beware: the procedure is complicated and the plasma screen is very fragile - if you aren't absolutely sure you can do the job well you should call a pro.

Sky remote code for LG 42LC46 tv

After spending hours on this I found that code 0206 worked on my sky+ remote(with LG 42LC46). On an old sky remote, prior to version 4 (inside the battery compartment), just use 206.
This code was actually for a LG 42PX5D but it works perfectly on my tv.

I have a 42" LG

Hi,
It can't be fix by replacing the fuse alone because the IC's and other parts are already faulty. You need to replaced the entire Y-sustain board. Try this LINK or obtain it from your local LG Service Centers.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

I have vertical coloured lines

You might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections.

The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down or will keep it from turning on when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts, which includes millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Diodes and IC can go bad.

This may have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced.

The only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment specifically designed for TV service and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.

Vertical amp chip needs re soldering.--- very common !

Vertical amp chip has failed and needs replacing !

Failure of electrolytic capacitors invert circuit

Failure of resisters that supply volts to the vertical circuit

Failure of deflection yoke ( not very common )

Hope this helps

NOTE . If you come across the two knobs that the other dude mentions let me know. I am sure that my fellow Tv techs would also be fascinated to learn of their existence.

Also it might be a convergence board failure. Changing one board will not necessarily fix it. It is recommended to change all 3 boards in the unit. many try this as a DIY and fall afoul because it is a specialist job to re-tune and reset the parameters. The cost then becomes greater than if a tech did it correctly the first time. Be advised it is not a simple DIY.It requires soldering and de-soldering skills, specialized tools and a knowledge of circuit diagrams.

Thanks for using fixya..

Vscan voltages on LG Plasma

Are your sparkles mainly red pixels flashing randomly over the TV screen, especially over darker areas? If so your sparkles are I believe a discharge problem, and can be fixed with a firmware upgrade, which I think resets and corrects the voltage and removes the sparkles, which is caused by misfiring of the gases produced with plasma TV's. I have had my TV repaired with a firmware upgrade, which takes only 10-15 minutes and is reasonably cheap repair, and now the TV looks great, no more sparkles. Don't play around with the voltages let the pros fix it, also beware! leave this too long and it can become permanent, and need a new screen which is half the price of the a new TV.

LG 42PX4MVH remote control does

Hello
If you are using its original remote control handset with this set, replacing batteries will poise no problem at all. If remote control does not works properly check the following.

Check to see if there is any object between the TV and the remote control
causing obstruction.
Are batteries installed with correct polarity (+ to +, - to -)?
Correct remote operating mode set: TV, VCR etc.?
The light at its side

Illuminates the remote control
buttons of selected mode.
OK.

Hello, I have an LG

If by unplugging the set for a while and then plugging it back in did not fix, then you have either a bad Main board or Power supply. I would bet on the Main board.

My plasma screen is not

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for 5 mins, then try.

If you aren't tech savvy, this unit needs to go in for repair.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering, and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l0AUj8QUkg&NR=1&feature=fvwp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7b_nTaZYcU&feature=related

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.

We have to thick, 5cm,

These lines are caused due to malfunctioning buffer boards. You will need to replace both the high and low buffers to resolve this problem. Let me know if you wish to do it yourself so that I can help you find the replacements.
