Resolders the FBT,the big block plastic with a red wire solder to a board.

Does the blue look out of alignment with the other colors?If so you probably need to replace the convergence ic's.They are located on a small board that is accessible from the front of the tv after removing the grill.Part#stk392-110.You should replace both of them because they are high failure parts.

This is the closed caption box, go in to menu and turn off close caption and the box will disappear. There may be a closed caption button your remote also the make this disappear.

The ICs are most likely defective if the old ones allow the set to power up.

If this is not resolved soon, the picture will start to bow from the top and bottom. This is a common rpoblem with CRT based projections sets and is in the convergence circuit. If you can solder, you may be able to resolve this yourself. Be aware that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present inside the set even when unplugged.

The problem can be as simple as poor solder connetions at the convergence ICs or defective ICs. In any case, these ICs are large and black and are marked STKxxx. If you can locate these, try resoldering the pins on the ICs. If that fails to resolve the probelm, replace the ICs.

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board (main Board) would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$300

A Google search for the board part number returned several sources. Here's one. You should also check the values of resistors around the STK's. When the IC's fail, the resistors can change value which can cause the repeat failure you're experiencing.

You need the original remote in most cases. Also, some models just have a button on the front of the TV.

I just checked and the part # is SSB-2051A-M2 and is the same for both models.........Go for it !!!!

Bad power supply.

Power board failures usually result in symptoms like you've described here. Generally the board itself is not extremely expensive but the labor is never cheap. Sorry :(

check for a 3 volt lith batt on the main board
