Does the JVC DR-MV5S DVD recorder/VCR combo unit have an analog tuner or digital tuner, so that you can record one channel while watching a different channel on your TV?

You can read what JVC is telling about the recorder. It is not an digital tuner, but still you can record a DVD and watch another channel or vice versa. 43bf1167-889b-473e-a638-8fc5b8c36484.png Want to read the whole manual? click the link: DVD Recorder Hi Fi VHS Combination DR MV5S Introduction

DVD will not stop reading and does not eject.

I have one that did the exact same thing I would put the disk in and it would just continuously read and would not play and a regular dvd cleaner would not work I have3 to take it apart and clean every bit that was cleanable with a Qtip and alcohol and then afterward would get stuck and for a while I had to get it started manualy to get it to open but it played and stopped doing all the reading and done its job then to after a week or so I no longer had to help it open and it was not all the time either hit and miss but today it is doing fine and it was a cheap one and is old but we still watch movies on it and it has not given me any more trouble. Hope this works.

I need to play a

this will happen from one of 2 things. either the dvd is not a region 1 or the dvd player is not a region 1. if you purchased the player from ebay resently then i would return it. if the dvd player is old and always worked then your dvd is probably not region 1. sometimes when the dvds are packaged there can be mispackings that happen so even if the dvd cover says region 1 it may not be. try another dvd. if another dvd works then the first dvd is the issue.

If it won't PLAY VHS tapes it must have a serious mechanical problem (if it even loads) or its heads are glommed up, so it obviously won't record them either. When's the last time you ran a cleaning tape through it?

Solve the load or playback problem and it will probably record.

Time and poor storage conditions are the mortal enemies of tapes. Store the in a 'played

While playing a vhs tape,

You may have a dirty video head, try a wet or dry cleaning tape (I recommend the dry tape) the other option is to use a brand new store bought tape T120, set vcr to sp "2hrs" and let it play the full time.

Manually dubbing part of a VHS tape onto a DVD,

It flashes resetting because this is how it recovers  from a firmware crash; it's just like a reboot after an BSOD.  The crash occurred because the firmware either
1 - had a software conflict - this dvd recorder always finishes the DVD-R disk after burning - that means that you are not supposed to be able to add another video to it. If you try to do that the system can't handle it. Just use a single disk for every movie, they're cheap enough to use them as coasters.
2- encountered a hardware failure - the processor malfunctioned. In that case the unit is dead, this cannot be fixed and no parts are available to it.

I have a JVC DR-MV5S. When I dub a VHS to DVD,

The disk must be finalized. Instructions are on page 79 of the instruction booklet for the MV5S. I can't get the manual to download from the MVC site, but maybe it will work later. Hopefully you have the manual.

Region free DVD code for JVC DR MV5 VHS/DVD combo

Hi,

Why don't you just go get another DVD that plays all region.

Its pays. It is not certain that you will get the code for free. I have done a little research but seem not to find any code for your player.

To save your self the stress, get an all region DVD player.

All the best.
