Hitachi 46F500 46" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Hitachi TV repair
Hello... Rear Projection TVs are not easy to work on. That being said, color issues can be caused by several different things. The most common involves the CRTs (there are three small picture tubes). There is a fluid in each tube that over time can dis-color, and involves a very difficult procedure to fix. Next, there are convergence circuits for each CRT, and one or more can fail. This will not usually cause the symptom you are describing, it will usually cause a double image in some or all areas of the screen and some areas the colors will look fine while other areas will not. It could also be a bad CRT drive board, or the video processing IC. It could even be the high voltage splitter! If I were you, I'd consider a new TV (please get the extended warranty). I hope this helps...
To make screen clearer.
Are you using the original remote control...Reg TV doesn't fit your screen because it's not filmed in HD...But it should be clear but you have to watch it smaller... Usually big screen tv's will have a black trim around the picture...And zoom cuts off some of the picture..Some tv's have wide, cinema and other options...Your TV might just have zoom
Want to hook pc to tv
Connect HDMI output of laptop to input of tv. If no HDMI output look for laptop video output and get a converter for it to go to the input of tv.

Black and white picture with red lines vibrating with sound.
More info would be nice. Are you using HDMI or Component cables. If it is component cables (red, blue, green for video white and red for audio) Check your red and blue connection. Green alone will give you a black and white picture. If you are using an HDMI cable, replace the cable to see if this changes anything or if you have another tv swap cables to see if problem stays with tv or moves to another tv.
Cant switch chan volume or inputs from tv no remote
Go to Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, Sears, Best Buy, or any store like that make sure you have your make and model written down with you and go get a universal remote they can run anywhere from $15 to $100. Just make sure the model of remote you buy works with your television set. The instructions are usually pretty easy and involve punching in a code - I recommend once you figure out the code you highlight it in the instructions and write it down on a small piece of paper and use scotch tape to secure it to the inside of the battery cover so you have it when you change the batteries.

First unplug the unit until problem is found---I would look inside for burnt parts like resistors in the convergence circuit which is the most common issue this set has. They may be discolored or brown in the middle and not actually charred.Locate what burned and you will locate the area where the problem is, many resistors in that area are protection, if a short they destroy themselves very quickly ....If you were having any issue before or at the point it started smoking where picture looked odd or even 3d it will be in the convergence circuit.
Not exact but something like this--the two black chips and resistors in front of them.

Which board are you refering to as the main circuit board? The power supply PWB ? The Deflection / Convergence PWB ? or the Signal PWB ? respond to this same post and I can help you out, but there isnt a PWB called " main" In that chassis hitachi.

If model number is as listed (46f500) it does not use a lamp or bulb but has three picture tubes.3d means the two convergence chips in the set have failed. It depends on if you can solder etc, not a very expensive parts cost (under 30 dollars)Can you solder? SD TECH
The picture keeps turning pink
I have a suggestion: when it goes pink go to a black and white channel and examine the screen: if reddish you may be able to adjust the red screen control to correct this.
I can tell you how to do that and please let me know what you find before you rate this information.

This model like most of these sets uses up to 3 mechanical relays; they are black and square (follow power cord into set) and have a history of either opening or not when in use---I have seen several where it would not shut off or turn on etc where you could tap on the relay and the set would work..
The only other reason would be a bad solder connection in the same area---tap and the set works and it is either the relay or a bad solder connection.
The click is the relay shutting off and points to where your problem is.
If you have questions comment here and I will help.

Tv shut off all of a sudden then power started
Does not have a lamp because it is not a DLP Sounds like you have a bad connection. I would plug the set up and take the back off and turn on at the switch and tap on the chassis and see if it will come on. If it comes on and goes off with tapping there is a bad solder connection
From your pictures, I have
Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.
