Hitachi 51F710 Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
Tv wont turn on
With set unplugged remove rear cover and follow the power cord to the fuse--good or bad? This set should also have some led lights there that are green or red---look to see if any are lit or if when plugged in with back removed which come on or go off instantly, the reason I ask is those are each tied to a voltage source and will point to where the problem MAY be.
Upper left corner of tv is double image with pink and green
Press Menu on the remote If you see double green, red or blue letters and a part or all of picture looks double, this means the convergence circuit is the problem. A repair like this could be $150.00 and up.If you're an electronic savvy, you can replace the two chips (stk392-***) yourself. In this case the 2 black big convergence (both with same part#) chips need to be replaced and without the model# I can't tell which ones they are but they could be one of the following: STK392-110 or STK392-120.Sometime the resistors around the ICs go bad and you inspect them and measure the with an ohmmeter. HITACHI 57F710S - no red
Projection sets have two very common problems listed below.
You can see some more examples and find a fix using this link on Fixya http://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull
The first common problem is convergence
These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.
When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

I have a Hitachi 51F710S
Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

No green in picture
Three things could be wrong,
1.) If using Component Video Check to make sure all the cables are in the correct locations
2.) Video board has issue
3.) Electron Gun has an issue
Set top box and remote control
I have the same problem. When I move the 8300HDC away from the TV, or power off the TV, the remote responds. There seems to be some kind of RF interference, which makes no sense since the TV shouldn't emit RF, and the the box should be using IR only for remote input. My TV is a 46" LCD Samsung. Try turning off the TV and see if the 8300HDC responds to powering on and off with the remote.
