you can unscrew the large back plastic section to make the tv a bit narrower...but be careful as this is the piece the mirror is mounted to on the other side...just make sure you have someone help you do it.
If the picture is 3d looking in some way----it is a convergence problem; many of these sets have "magic focus" and if it will not correct the problem the two convergence chips need to be replaced---this model should use either STK-392-110 OR -150 CHIPS.
This can be a do it yourself repair if you have some skill and total parts cost on Ebay would be under 25 dollars.
Let me know your skill level here and I will instruct you how to do the fix.
Sounds like the convergence has failed which is a common problem with rear projection TV sets. This video has more details on this and info on how to fix it,
On that model the conv IC is usually not the solution. I believe its the blown capacitor problem with is an easy fix. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com for a repair kit.
Simple answer for this question:Magic focus is for Convergence and attempts to adjust at about 16 points on the screen---if it does not help the two convergence chips this set uses need to be replaced---small chance if either chip shorted you may have a bad resistor near them also.See attached photos of convergence problems --no two look the same but you will now know if your problem.I have replaced chips in hundreds of these Hitachi sets--about the only real issue the sets have--life span on the chips is 5-7 years. If you can solder and are moderately handy this can be a do it yourself repair--Parts (see photo of chips) cost will be under 25 dollars and the fix for a first time person about one hour.Happy to help and assist you if you decide to fix it yourself.Chips look like these and may have the stk-392-150 number on them, a stronger version of the one seen in the photo
Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems. Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence. You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right. If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem. Solution #1You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc. Problem #2 CRT Fluid is CloudyProjection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos aroundimages. Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.TV set after fluid changeSolution #2What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.comand do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix. Here is an example photo....
The resistors are all marked with bands which denote the value---just check them with a ohm meter===no need to replace out of hand. When you replace the chips: remove all the old white grease and apply fresh heat sink compound (thermal transfer grease.I see lots of people who want to "change everything" and usually get in trouble----for the most part these parts are either good or bad.You will need the original Hitachi remote when done to adjust convergence in the Decam mode.
This set (model indicated) has 3 picture tubes.I suspect it arced or popped and all three now have a burn mark causing this problem---simple way to prove it:Remove back cover and cover one of the three large lens(green is middle one) and turn set on----if one of the specs is gone---that tube is burnt---cover lens one at a time and each will vanish.BAD NEWS----cost to remove/replace all three is too much--AND SOMEONE WOULD have to find and repair the problem that caused it or it will just repeat it again.Let me know if you have questions.
Yes,but the front that not what u wanted to be open. The back of the tv that what u wanted to be open. That where the tv convergence board is,that the board require reparing.Yes,if U have all the tools and can do basic soldering works too like take out desoldering ICS take it out of a circuit board and resoldering ICS on put in onto a circuit board and also desoldering/resodering like take out small components parts and replace with new small components parts onto a circuit board?Yes?The tv convergence board must require replaces like 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.To fixed the tv convergence board to solved the tv convergence pictures problems.Tries websites like Tvrpairworld.com,Tvrepairkits.com to buy a whole complete convegence kit belong to ur tv make and model the kit also will have a dvd disc of tutoring job too.Or tries tvs shops will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.
Press "Menu" on the remote select the "Magic Focus" option in the Video menu or press the "Magic Focus" button on the front panel to adjust the convergence of the three picture tubes that create the proper color for the picture. Pressing the button on the TV initiates the automatic adjustment, and accessing the feature through the Video menu allows you to choose automatic or manual adjustment, though the "Automatic" setting must be selected for the button on the front of the TV to begin the process.
Take a good look at the dozen or so small resistors around the chips; most will be 1.2 , 1.5, 1.7 ohm and usually (not all the time) the culprit will be discolored in the middle.
These if good should read like a fuse if tested---no reading means gone.
