Hitachi 53UDX10B 53" Rear Projection Television - Page 6 Questions & Answers

That would be the convergence. This usually can be adjusted either through a menu or by adjusting controls inside the set. To do this properly, you need a signal generator to create a grid on the screen so the three colors are aligned with each other.

projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone outProjection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.
Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.
Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )
Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....
Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
Solution #1
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Solution #2
What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc
Is it HD ready
The requirements for HDTV is a 16:9 aspect ratio. This set has 4:3 aspect ratio, therefore is NOT an HDTV set.

Hi,
First remove dust from tv with blower so you can see parts on circuit boards.
You will see few LEDs that are On, please check what LED is Off and mention its circuit number like D201, D202 etc in your Hitachi 53UDX10B tv
This will help me to diagnose problem in tv to help you with related info.
Thanks.
I have the Hitachi 53UDX10B 53" rear projection TV
there is a setting for the convergence on the menu controls
you have to find the selection.. when you find it and click on it.
you will get one vertical line and a horizontal line in the center of the screen.
the colors will not be even.. you have to select each color and adjust using the volume controls.
until you no longer see the color and it hides behind the line.. adjust red, blue, and gree.
there is also another adjustment on the inside of the tv..
for a manual or diagram on how to do it. you can order one for 17 or less at goldenlepricon. com
Hi, my tv has a
In this tv the image is generated by 3 small CRT's - small tv tubes. What you experience is typical to aged tubes - it takes them longer than usual to reach normal functioning level.
There is nothing that can be done to fix that, and it will get worse as the aging progresses. In the end the screen will be darker and the color shift permanent. Theoretically you could replace the tubes and the tv will be as new, unfortunately the production of replacement tubes has ceased 4 years ago - outdated technology, it has been abandoned and the factories tooled for it closed - so finding new ones is practically impossible at a decent price.
Your tv is slowly dying of old age. Use it as is as long as you can then buy a new one.
I think I have a beam out of alignment can this be
You need to replace both of your STK ICs ,they are big black ICs and will have part number on them STK392-110 use 120s or 150s also ck resistors 1.5ohms 1.8ohms 3.3ohms 2.2 ohms
Mats Electronics sells ICs $9.95 each 1-800-628-1118
My tv no turn on
If
you hear a clicking noise that sounds like the ballast trying to power on the
lamp, but nothing happens, the lamp may be faulty. Simply replace the lamp. If no picture is appearing then the
high tension module has failed. The tv must be opened and tested by a pro - too
many things can go wrong there for an amateur to dabble in.
No picture. power light
There is an issue with the power supply or circuitry. you would be better off to get a trained tech to look at this.
I have a problem with
hello, it's not just about changing the convergance ic also you will have to test the resistor in front of the chip and the capacitor at either end you will have to desolder 1 end of the resistor so you get a proper reading on the multimeter also you will need a esr meter to test capacitors and good desoldering and soldering skills, i'm not trying to put you off just explaining what is needed, make sure the power off good and luck be safe

I turned the tv on and when it came on it had a
If blue is skewed and out of place it suggests convergence problem; see attached photos and let me know if yes.
This model uses either two of the STK-392-110 OR STK-392-150 CHIPS FOR THIS.
Both chips need to be replaced and there are good reasons for this. Sometimes there will also be a damaged or bad resistor around the chips--it does not matter--total parts cost if purchased on EBAY will be under 20 dollars.
If you have some skill I can step you through this fix.
The chips (see photo) fail because the white grease applied to them to transfer heat to the metal they are attached to dries out and one of the chips overheats and goes bad.
Normal life is 5 to 8 years.
This is not open heart surgery, I have helped a lot of people here to do this---I have personally fixed over 1,000 sets with this problem so my knowledge is first hand.
can I assist you? Tell me if you have some skill and can solder and can follow detailed instructions if I give them.
I only ask a "very helpful" rating from you as I do this here for free. I have helped hundreds of people here. Look at my record as it shows how many votes I have and my approval rating at over 97%,
The ball is in your court if you let me know what you want to do.
I am here to help people, I am here to help you.
