A number if things can be wrong with it, from the audil preamp to the the audio amplifier. Even as simple as a bad volume control. Does the actual noise change patterns when you move the volume?

You did not mention the model or year, but some models have a global detune setting available (read manual, download after Googling) and it is possible that has been altered from 0.0 to some other plus or minus cents. Other models of keyboards may have a tuning potentiometer on the back. If it is a very old analog synth, then any oscillator pots might need trimming and capacitors replaced (such is work for a keyboard tech).

Try plugging in the pedal with the Roland powered down or off. With the pedal plugged in, turn the Roland on again. The Roland should sense the polarity upon power up. If this doesn't work, I have had those pedals get defective right out of the box, so try this...Get a ¼ inch guitar or signal cable and plug that into the damper jack. The cable will represent an open circuit polarity since nothing is shorting out the leads. See if the EP77 is sustaining or if it is not. Alternately, try shorting the guitar cable by laying a piece of metal across the top and bottom of the jack. A pocket or kitchen knife or any bare wire will do. If this does not work, your assumption about the power supply may be correct.

You will need a usb mixer or some other usb audio interface. Most likely whatever you purchase will come with installation instructions. Make sure whatever you get has more inputs than you need for future expansion.

If you are referring to the User Data, then yes that would be gone. Time to reset and start re-programming

George, I would recommend getting a tech to do this one- a Roland is an expensive instrument, and I would seriously rather someone else was to blame if something happened! :)
