I would advise checking the elements as well. It is possible that plastic has melted onto the elements. Try to Identify which slot the smell is strongest. If there is a spot where the elements do have some sort of foreign material melted to them, you may need to replace them.

what is the make and model?

if you mean the toast itself doesn't toast on one side, check that both heating elements have about the same resistance value. One could be twice as conductive as the other and not heat as much as the other side.
If you mean the other two slots don't toast, the problem could be in the switch or in the elements themselves. check carefully the continuity of the toaster across the (unplugged) ac power connector while you push the toaster load handle down on each side. If the resistance is significantly larger on the problem side, the problem is either the switch or the elements. The problem is usually with the switch becoming corroded or oxidized. The switch is supposed to be self-cleaning, that is, it wipes itself as contact is made to help remove buildup. Sandpaper both contacts until they shine copper colored. Otherwise look at the elements while toasting. dark areas mean lower wattage is being dissipated and the element may be bad near a dark spot.

From the toastess recipe pamphlet that came with my waffle/ sandwich maker in the early '80s 2 cups all-purpose sifted flour 1 tbsp sugar 3 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 eggs, well beaten 2 cups milk 1/2cup butter or margarine, melted Mix flour sugar baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Beat eggs and milk together. Add to dry ingredients. Together with melted butter and beat only until batter is smooth. Follow instructions to baking. Yields 12 waffles

Disconnect the wire and open up the thermostat if its not heating up the water or not automatically stops after heating. Replace your Electric Kettle Thermostat with a new one. Because most of the problem occurs when your thermostat does not work properly. And about a 10 percent chance is your heating Element is getting wrong.

sometimes they will be set up to blink and it is to let u know you that theres a problem so it will blink until its fixed or take the bottom off and disconnect the wire to it but i would just unplug it and then its got no power because you say it doent work any way. you will see when you open it up all the different gizmos and then trouble shoot. in reality if it didnt cost an arm and a leg i would probably buy a new one as they start breaking down and if its because of age then what will be next, good luck.

Take the motor out. Disassemble it, clean the rotor shaft and bearings with rubbing alcohol and pipe brush. Add some 3 n 1 oil to the bearings and reassemble. Works like new.

Hi Kriss, I would go to Amzone and put in waffle iron. You can buy new ones for the price it would cost for the replacement. Kind regards David
