Blank screen (but some light) on Sharp LC42SB48UT LCD TV
Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

try to reconnect all connector on cable box and your cable connection on your TV.

I would look to see if this unit has a back light and if so it may be your problem--either the actual back light or the voltage source that powers it.Not likely to be a do it yourself repair.
What kind of audio system do I need to purchase
I changed my audio equalizer setting to "POP" and I got much more
pronounced separation. Also, make sure the SURROUND is set to "ON" in
your settings or simply hit the SURROUND button on the remote that came
with the TV.
The "AUDIO OUT" jacks on this set apparently only work when the input is
set to "TV". I wanted to hook a couple of external speakers up as well
and found they would not work when hooked up to HDMI to a cable box. I
mean how many people by a large flat screen like this if they don't want
to view HD? Like about zero! The AUDIO OUT works only when TV is
selected for INPUT
A work around is to use the headphone jack and hook a couple of external speakers up to that.
If you want to go for a higher end home theater sound bar system so that
you can route both DVD and CABLE box through it via multiple HDMI's you
can choose from SONY, Phillips etc.
I wrote to Sharp about the AUDIO OUT issue. It's rediculous that they
only work when TV is selected for input. But you might try using the
heaphone jack alternative if you find a set of speakers that sound good
to you. Hope this helps.
