Does the universal cord go into the rgb1 , rgb2 or S video input.

if it's the rgb input, swap to the other rgb input.
otherwise borrow a cable from the neighbours computer and try that.

if the wiggling is still needed then that socket on the LCD has dry joints on the pcb inside

Steve, your issue is not the bulb...

Sounds like you have a problem with either a ribbon cable from your main board to red LCD panel, or a main board failure.

Presentation mode is off...

I'm going to guess that you have a wide screen Dell laptop with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a default resolution of 1280X800. The wide screen is great BUT most presentation grade projectors do not have a native (pixel for pixel) 16:10 mode. Instead they still prefer a display input with a 4:3 aspect ratio like your old square CRT or standard definition TV. Why do they prefer a 4:3 input? Mainly because Powerpoint prefers to display a slideshow in a 4:3 mode. Because of this Dell, in their infinite wisdom, created the 'presentation mode' utility in an attempt to automatically convert the VGA output of your laptop from 16:10 to 4:3 on the fly. In my experience this is an annoyance at best and at worst can seriously impact the size and quality of the projected image.

The best thing you can do when you connect to a projector is ignore the presentation mode alert and manually set your laptop's resolution to 1024X768 for an XGA rated projector or 800X600 for an SVGA rated projector. This will cause your desktop to look stretched on your laptop but will give you by far the best projection image.

I have a Dell Vostro

Hi Kristian,

Hitting "Fn+F8" toggles the display screen either to your laptop to projector/ external monitor. It should work automatically, but if not, just follow these steps:

1. Go to Dell Quickset
2. Click Display settings
3. You will find a box to check to turn Presentation Mode "Off" or "On"

Hope this helps.

My ProShow Gold production on my ACER laptop (set

I have asked a couple of gurus I know and they seem to think the solution is to set the laptop to aspect ratio 1024x768 to match the projector. Then change it back later. I am not in the position to test this unless it happens again with another projector somewhere else. What I wanted to know was how should they have set their projector. G.

LCD projector not displaying image of the laptop

On that Dell, you have to tell the laptop to display the image on an external unit--look on either F4 or F8--you will find a small TV screen symbol. You have to press and hold "alt" and press the key. The options are, 1-show image on just the laptop, 2-show the image on the laptop *and* something else, (like a projector), or 3-show an image on JUST an external display. NOTE: Sometimes, you have to turn on the projector FIRST, then immediately turn on the laptop so they boot together--just one of those strange things...(remember, **for example** first press of "alt" F4 will get you laptop and projector, second press of "alt F4 will get you JUST the projector, third press of the keys will bring you back to just the laptop)---Rick

Presentation mode is off appears when you try to

check device manager to be sure your video card is functioning properly. If it looks good in device manager, shut off the pc, connect the external monitor/projector to the pc and start up the pc with the external device powered on. if no video from external device, then the video card/external connector is probably bad. Contact Dell if in warranty.

maybe the fn/f8 keys are not working. Can you get a safe mode boot prompt by repeatedly pressing the f8 key immediately following power up on the laptop? if no, f8 key is likely dead and you need a new keyboard. If f8 is okay, does the fn key work with other functions? if no, fn key is bad - new keyboard.

Hope this helps!

Presentation mode is off in laptop

use the remote control or the menu button on the projector - navigate the menu system of the projector and one of the options should be able to alter the presentation mode from off to on.

If you post back with the model of the projector can either post a link back with a pdf manual for it or if you read the manual it should show in there how to enable the presentation mode.

Also ensure that you have the projector and laptop connected via the relevant cable ie vga or dvi before you switch the laptop on.

Also ensure if its got an intel graphics card to use the intel or graphics card utility to enable dual display or clone display mode and that the projector is switched on before you turn your laptop on.

right click in free area on your desktop --> properties --> display --> and configure it under the advanced section with regards to getting your laptop to display on the projector

configuring your graphics card for the projector will vary from graphics card to graphics card as the drivers are different between manufacturers and they place things in different places.

If you also post back with what make and model of graphics card you have on your laptop I can try and assist you further with how to ensure your laptop is outputting to the projector.

Also if it displays funny then lower the resolution on your laptop as well as the display frequency / refresh rate as the output from the graphics card on your laptop has to match what the projector supports ( this will be in the manual of the projector in terms of what display modes it supports )
