I had this exact same issue. Turns out that the TV automatically scans for new channels every now and again, and 3am was the time chosen that was least likely to cause viewing disruption. So in short, it is perfectly normal. Mind at rest.

There is some shorted component/s on the circuit board. The set need a through checkup. Contact any experienced service technician.

Yes, the power switch replacement is a very simple job - you just need to keep the wires soldered in the same position on the new switch: make a diagram before unsoldering them from the old one.
If the defect is indeed located only at the switch (check that by simply measuring the presence of the mains power on the mainboard connector when the switch is pressed) then no other part is necessary.
If there is power when the switch is pressed then the defect is in the power section and it will have to be investigated further.

This problem could be as simple as poor solder connections on the board that sits on the back of the CRT to a defective driver transistor for the red gun to a bad picture tube. It is possible that this is an inexpensive repair (solder connection or defective transistor) or expensive (bad tube). If you can solder, try resoldering the CRT board connections and see if that resolves the problem. If not, then have a shop take a quick look. They will be able to determine whether the CRT is bad or not.

hthis is either a power peoblem or another board if it is still underwarrenty you can get it fixed with no charge

get a universal remote if i wer you it may solve it but they do cost a bit ... look on the bright side you can tune those to any tv in the world =)

turn it off and back on again in menu if that doesnt work change some settings back and forth

is this electricity pocket plugged up to a timer ? or take the tv back to the shop... lost the receit just look for the same tv on computer

The vertical output IC is most likly bad or has a bad connection on it. Its a stand up IC witha metal heat sink and should start with an LA number. There ciould also be a problem with the B+ feed if you replace the IC and still get no vertical deflection. The parts would be in the sweep power supply and would start with the same first number thats printed on the printed circuit board, that is printed by the vertal sweep IC, meaning if the IC number on the board was IC412, then the B+ supply parts would start with 4 also ie r456, d456,c435 ect ect. The numbers I used are not the actuall numbers just used for referance. If you need a schematic one is available at http://www.servicemanuals.net for a download price of about 24 bucks.
