Toshiba 50H82 50" Rear Projection Television - Page 8 Questions & Answers
The bottom half of the screen of my old Toshiba
Hi ,it has to do with the light engine.Either the DMD board and this it how it works:http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically if your tv is a dlp it has a chip that carries 2 million pixels when those chips are in the off position you'll get lines or discoloration.God bless you and your family.
No picture or sound
Hi,do you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on?If you do it could be an issue with the ballast that is the board that powers the lamp.If you dont hear that and tv is between 2-4 yrs most likely its time to replace lamp.Make sure you Get the Philips brand.God bless you and your house.
It has a spider web inside the screen and I need
The best way to get at it is through removal of the front screen. Start by removing the front speaker grill-should just pull off (snap fitted). Then remove the front control panel (4screws). Next remove 4 screws from bottom of front of screen- the screen should ten just pull off -also snap fit- Make sure the set is unplugged before you begin- Once the screen is off you can also clean the lenses and the mirror (if glass) use a soft damp cloth.
NO PICTURE
Educated Guess : It likely is the convergence IC's 2 STK's and 2 fuses Approx $200-$300
Read below and decide if you want to tackle the problem yourself if so I’ll help along the way with what info I have. If not contact the nearest repair shop armed with the info below.
A dead set (no picture no sound) can indicate any number of problems – Usually the set is in shutdown or protection mode – this means that the internal circuits have detected a problem with a supply voltage missing, drawing too much current, going over voltage or a short condition.
The first thing to do is power off the set unplug it for 5min. than replug and try again. This in effect resets the main micro and will sometime unlatch a fault and resume working. There are certain common problems based on the make model – for instance convergence output IC’s(CRT projection TV’s) can cause a dead set symptom in many models. Vertical output IC failure can also cause the same symptom (CRT standard and Projection).
The only way to determine the real cause is :
By an educated guess based on experience or by directly troubleshooting the set – checking fuses, measuring voltages and checking for shorts. Many of the intermittent problems such as, int.(Intermittent) no sound or picture, int. picture shrunken or misshaped. These problems are generally due to cold (bad) solder joints (all TV’s and electronics) that break down under slight temperature changes or vibration and are usually verified by physically tapping the suspected area on the circuit board, or by quickly heating or cooling a suspected component or area ( cold spray and hot air gun). The other main culprit is leaky or dried out capacitors or capacitors that change value depending on temperature. These can sometimes be seen as bulged or leaky and have an acrid odour.
My screen is completely black, but the sound is
Hello:
I would start with the fact that you might not have any high voltage so your picture tubes are not lighting up, You can determine this by listening closely to your set with no noise in the immediate area when you turn on the set, you should hear a brief static sound from with in the set when u first turn on the set, if not them there is no high voltage, If you can't determine if you hear the sound or not, another way to determine is remove the lower front cover form the set and there should be a small wood or plastic panel behind it. Remove it also and look for a grey or black device with six adjusting knobs, this is the focus and screen block, It is labeled with three on top and three on bottom which is Screen focus, and Screen Bias for each individual tube one knob labeled R for red, G for Green, and B for Blue. Do not turn the ones that says focus as you will need a video picture to reset, since right now you have no video. The other three knobs are screen bias controls, turn either one ONLY! one slightly to the right while looking at the screen, considering which one you turn the screen should turn that color. If it does'nt then your problem is either no heater voltage or no High Voltage. I recommend you put a mark on the control before turning it so you can put it back to its orginal location. One final note worth exploring, if you are connected to a cable box check its connections especially if you are connect through Componet Video for HD, I have found that some times the Green Cable come out and this will produce no video also. Try hooking a dvd player of sort to an video input and use your remote to change to that Inpout and see if you have a picture if you do then Its more then likely your cable box is faulty not producing video or hooked up wrong, If you are connected by componet cables make sure they are connected green to green, red to red and blue to blue...
Hope this helps..
Red led blinking / on off light on cinama series
Educated guess: Most likely convergence problem - would need to be tested - 2 fuses and 2 STK IC's usually need replacing.

Toshiba Model No. 50A62 When the set is first
It sound to me like your tuner is going out. I would suggest that you contact a local service center to get the tuner replaced or just put up with it as long as you can.
I hope this helps.

Toshiba rear screen projection tv theaterview
1.) It sounds like you have a convergence problem; in the customer menu with the original Toshiba remote select convergence--if blue or red will NOT move in some direction you have a bad convergence IC.
2.) This set uses 2 STK-392-110 convergence chips; they and any open resistors around them need to be replaced and the set adjusted.
3.) If you are able to do this repair yourself you can save a lot of money--Most TV shops will charge 300-400 for this type of repair on this set.
4.) If you cannot do the repair yourself look in your area--now is the slow time of year for TV repair shops---if they say it "has to go to shop" keep looking----almost any good tech can do this repair in your home in about an hour--I have done hundreds of them here and charge 200-250 total depending on brand and model.
5.) I am here to help people and if you have questions or need advice let me know--the two chips this set uses you can buy on Ebay for about 12 dollars plus shipping.
I do this here for free, so if this information has helped you give me a vote here---let me know by replying here if you need more help.

Toshiba Rear Projection TV picture color is now a greenish hue
Hi, I used to work in Best Buy and one of the key things about rear projection TVs and the reason they push those service plans on you is that the tubes/colors need to be calibrated each year. You can do this yourself by checking out the following website:
http://lgknowledgebase.com/kb/index.php?View=entry&EntryID=3229
If you are not able to adjust the convergence using the remote you will need to replace the convergence chips.
Typical Symptoms
1) Convergence menu does not work for one or more colors.
Such as: Red moves up,down, but left or right fails.
2) Screen is bowed looking.
If you have one or more of the problems above you need to replace the convergence chips. You can get a kit and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com
Hope this helps :)

Can i cut another screen to fit my tv?
depends on what type of screen you have and if you want to cut the protective layer or the actuall screen which on some tvs is 2 layers of thin glass with liquid in between. in that case no but if you just want the outer case then yes just cut it out of plexiglass or another thin transperent material.
I have a toshiba tv that will only turn on
Hi,
Check the voltage of the ray tube and convergence adjustments. If it doesnot resolve the issue then your convergence board is bad and has to be replaced. For some reasons your convergence board is putting your tv on protective mode and shutting your tv.So your convergence board should be replaced.
Thanks
Smith.
Where can I get the front screens for my tv?
If you have to replace the linticular screen the cost will be prohibitive. The outer Plexiglas can be purchased at a hardware store although it will not have the glare reduction as most of the big screens have but it will work. Your best bet is to contact a tv repair shop and ask them if they have any toshiba 50" sets they are parting out and ask them for the cost of the screen. That may be your most cost effective way. I know if we had a customer to ask we would sell them one at a resonable price, but unfortuinatly our shop does not have any toshiba sets junked out. We have several sony's though.

This is a convergence issue, the stk392 ic's have failed on the convergence board, if you want to tackle this issue your self you will need soldering skills and a dvm. This is a common issue with all projection tv's.
I got a 50 inch TV and I cought my daughter
it damaged the crystals in the LCD Panel the only way to fix it to take it back to where u bought it and tell them the screen went out they more than likely will replace it
