Replace stk392-110 ic's in Toshiba 42h81 tv
Kits are available but price is not real cheap---basically you have to unbolt chassis and release some cables inside to get enough room to pull chassis back and put up so bottom faces rear of set.In this model both chips are near the middle of the set inside--unsolder all 18 pins on each and the 4 pins that hold each heat sink in---you remove the sink with chip still attached--clean the white grease off, apply new and replace both chips.Works best if put front chip WITH THE HEAT SINK ATTACHED back in first and repeat with rear sink---it means when you install you have to get 18 pins plus the four pins for the sink installed in one shot.May not be a task for a first time person.

How do you adjust the picture with the remote and the grid
Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix. Here is an example video
Tv/video switch won't switch
The model indicated is a older Toshiba rear projection(if another brand/model let me know)You should be able to select the rear inputs either via the remote (original one) or with the input (video) button on the set.If in the menu they are grayed out--it means they have been locked out.Failing that a serious problem exists in the set's microprocessor.Hint: if you have not tried it UNPLUG THE SET FOR A WHILE TO SEE IF WHEN YOU PLUG IT BACK IT WILL RESET and restore the inputs.
When the set is turned on, the red led light
The blinking is an error code - it tells you what board inside the tv failed. To find the code just count the blinks between the greater pauses.
Once you know that you replace the failed board and verify the others - they might have been damaged by the failed one. But i must warn you: on such an old tv, with an old, obsolete technology (it's a CRT projection one, out of production by at least 5 years) finding part will be difficult and expensive. And since the CRT's (the small tv tubes that generate the image) use extremely high tension (about 25,000 volts) the repair should be done only by an experienced person.
