Toshiba 50HDX82 50" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
DVI to HDMI
HDMI and DVI use the same encoding scheme for video purposes- the only difference is HDMI can carry audio signals and therefore have different connectors- so it is not like the lack of a picture signal is because you are using two different cables (HDMI and DVI). In theory the DVI to HDMI adapter should work.
Is there a possibility that the adapter is defective? Any bent or missing pins?
How long are the cables? If they are of poor quality, a digital signal can be lost at 20 feet. Again, in theory.
The only other thing I can thing of, off the top of my head is to ask, did you change the input selection on your t.v.'s display screen to go from the input source that you get your t.v stations from... to the input source of the Play Station?
How do I replace the mirror on a toshiba 50hdx82 ?
Carefully would be the first thing I would say.The entire front screen unit with its frame comes off from the front of the set and the mirror is attached to the back wall of the set behind it.If it broke be careful that it did not make scratches on the inside of the screen---they will stand out like a sore thumb it it did. With gloves (not a bad idea to have a helper) it is attached with strips on at least two sides. If you get that far make sure no finger prints (gloves ) when you install the new mirror. Also if it broke get all the pieces out as light from the new mirror will reflect on the broken mirror parts and show in the picture---seen this more than a few times.Let me know if you have questions.
Tv shut off wont come back on makes clicking
It seems that Tv works for some time and then shuts off, if so it can be due to a thermal shunting and then it seems to hop around trying to start up with a clicking noise. You need to start by checking on this clicking noise, once this is confirmed it will be relative of the fault.perhaps it can be due to some loose links, dirt or shorting due to moisture in HT or a trip due to overload or chnages in the +B. All these means that you need to check the board for the correct voltage feed and see if there is any issues.

Toshiba 50HDX82 projection TV has started
All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video or dead set) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. In some cases the TV will also not show any video. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

The TV screen flickering when
This is typical with many sets when it goes old as there is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling , tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs.
Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points. Please find below a link for tips on poor start ups, as if the set is totally failed the SMPS might be faulty

I know this will sound stupid but try it, unplug just power cord, leave it unplugged for 2 hours then plug it back in. This will reset it to factory setting and if this issue was caused by a power issue it will fix it.
