Toshiba 57H81 57" Rear Projection Television - Page 8 Questions & Answers
Pop sound and now no picture or sound still gets power
Try disconnecting all the cables from the TV then reconnect them after a few minutes. It's suggested that you connect the power cable from the TV directly to a functional wall outlet.
If still there is no picture on the TV then it's required to replace the projection lamp.

The color seems to be off. No red, and lots of
Could be a bad board within the tv but it is sometimes the source input meaning it could be dvd player, cable/satellite box, etc causing the loss of color but it is unlikely. I have one of these tvs and they use red green and blue projectors to reproduce the colors so when the red projector fails then you get purple which is green and blue colors combined without the red. I have found it to be sometimes a bad connection inside the tv and I found insects such as roaches inside others. Using extreme caution when opening the rear cover of any tv due to dangerous and fatal high voltage. You might find that simply cleaning out the inside of tv and reseating all the connectors might resolve your issue otherwise you would have haul this tv to a repair shop where you pay half the price of a new flat screen lcd for just repairing this tv which will probaly have another color go out next month.
Will not turn on...just a flashing red light
Evidently this is a common problem with Toshiba rear projection TVs. You might be able to get it working temporarily by unplugging it, pushing the power button a few times, plugging it back in, and then turning it on. Most likely your power supply is going out on you, and should be taken in to be repaired.

Blinking power light & black screen on toshiba 57h81
This TV could have one of several problems including but not limited to; convergence IC's,bad capacitors, shorted horizontal output transistor. Call a good TV Tech. Check with the BBB before you decide on one.
There is a rectangular black box across the screen
in the customer menu--find the closed caption settings---you will most likely find the set has been set to TEXT 1---with the remote select either CC1 or OFF---the black box was for text (books) and was not ever used much---usually someone engages it by accident
Green screen
Actually this seems to be an issue with your Video board. That's why you can adjust the color.
I need to remove my front panel
The set may need cleaning but that will NOT correct what sounds like a convergence problem(3d type picture) this set uses two convergence chips and both will need to be replaced and any bad protect parts around them located and replaced also.
Usually just the two chips being replaced will restore the set to operation----you can clean the lenses by removing the back cover of the set---it will not help a convergence problem.
If you are not able to repair this set yourself look in your area-now is the slow time of year for TV repair shops---I do this kind of repair here in home for 200-250 depending on set. Some shops will charge 300-400 for this repair. This should be fixable right in your home---MAKE SURE WHOEVER DOES THE JOB CHANGES BOTH OF THE CHIPS.
I do this here for free so if this helped you give me a vote here. If you have questions or need help contact me here.

Everything functions fine but the picture is very dark
I think you answered your own question. You have a rear projection television. It sounds like the lamp is not functioning correctly.
All projection lamps have a recommended life measured in hours.
I checked the web and this model appears to be about 3 or 4 years old. from 2005 or so.
The lamp in my Samsung is rated at 3000 to 5000 hours, I had 12,800 when the service Tech was in changing another part.
3 or 4 years running one lamp is a good run. This is why DLP has lost favor for table top sets, Most are LCD or Plasma now.
Check you TV for it's lamp model and them shop around allot. Lamps are not cheap however some suppliers offer much better pricing that others. Care should be taken to make sure you order and purchase real replacement lamp and not a clone / compatible model. Original parts should produce the picture you are expecting
Toshiba Picture bouncing... becoming horizontal line
This sounds like a loose connection in the vertical circuit . The vertical IC would be the main suspect . These run somewhat warm and can the solder joints to expand and contract . Now what can also happen if you keep running it this way is the IC can become stressed out and finallly give out . Which will basicly give you one thin line side to side or some TV's when this part fails it will shut the tv down . Most shops depending if you can take it to them or if they have to make service the price will vary . Call around to a few local TV repair shops and get a rough estimate over the phone to what it might cost you . I would hope at best for a service it would not cost over $250.00 . Now if you can use a soldering iron you can save alot by soldering the loose connection yourself . Some experience would be required as some cabling straps would need to be loosened and plugs undone . Good luck and let me know how it turns out ( Team Tech )
Picture turns to shades of greens except the reds
it's a crt socket problem.try to clean the screen cable coming from the flyback and change the capacitor in the left side ot the fly back .you may also have an unsoldering resistor or capacitor around the flyback area.
I want change the ic for remote sensor for Toshiba
Do not try this unless you have a low power (30 watt) soldering iron and have some soldering skills.Buy some desoldering wick at Radio Shack. Place the wick on the solder connection and then place the soldering iron tip on the wick. Wait until the solder is sucked into the wick and completely clears the connection of any solder.Once both connections are clear of all solder, remove the IR sensor and place the new one in. Leave the new IR sensor leads long until you have soldered the connections. Then clip the leads short. Do not leave the solder iron on the connection to long when soldering in the new IR sensor. If you get the new sensor to hot it may damage it. Good Luck !
Screen turns green
Ur video ic inverter board is dead or have shorted parts.U need a new board.
Toshiba 57h81 with sound and no pic? no menu but
After the set has been on for 20 min., the heat sinks on those should be nice and warm. If they are then if you have a stand-up video I/O board with plug in jacks, make sure it is seated properly.....Try this first and let me know.
Wii accident
Sorry, that's not fixable. The display would need to be replaced. Since the display panel is most of the cost of an LCD TV, it's usually almost as expensive to replace the display as it is to replace the set.
The tv seems really dark.57in theatrewide hd toshiba
Go into the tv menu and select the Preferences menu and set your picutre preference from Theater to Normal. The TV is currently in Theater mode, wich is for viewing with no lights on in the room. Switching it to normal lightens the pictue a lot.
