Toshiba DR4 DVD Recorder Questions & Answers
Cant play dvds
Check all the connectors of the board . The problem may be from SMPS section there may be faulty condensers which does not function properly. Try to replace the condensers and replace the paper connectors then the problem will not occur
My toshiba dr4su will no longer record on dvd-rw
If its an older recorder it could be the usual problem of a greasy center-disc =
95% OF THE TIMES I could fix a problem like this was by cleaning with rubbing alcohol the rubber ring on the little rotating disc in the center of the drive mechanism. !!!! Because users always stick their index finger into the hole of all the CD'S for inserting a disc into the tray that a tiny amount of grease gets deposited onto the little rotation disc which touches the center of any inserted disc at about half an inch from its center hole. (underneath) When its greasy the discs slide and the inserted discs speed stays uneven and slow.
You must open the drivebox ( after unplugging the power-cable) to see and clean it.
Be careful to not look at it with power "on" because the laser will make you go blind (danger!!!!!!!
I heavily use a Toshiba DVD recorder since 12 years and it is my most reliable and most versatile recorder, while my brand new Sony recorder lasted only 2 years - Others as well had problems with finalizing etc. but in general the cleaning of the little center-disc that pushes from underneath against an inserted DVD to make it spin helps the most.

I bought a Toshiba DVR about 3 years ago and ever
Don't understand why you didn't take it back and ask for your money back 3 years ago? I suggest you go to an legal advice center and see if you can still do something about it.
It sounds like the lazer or lens could be faulty. However it could be just a bad soldering joint.
Toshiba d-r4su won't finalize
to clear "error 14", press the "display" button on the remote control - this has worked every time my toshiba has an error 14 message
I am getting error 14,
This error, according to this and other forums, can be due to a writing error on bad media. What's more, this error is 'non-critical', and can easily be cleared in most cases by the user.
Press 'DISPLAY' button (should be on remote); this should clear it. Also check to make sure the recordable DVD media is 4x - 8x write speed. Recommended media brand: Verbatim DVD-R/RW if you can get it, or Kodak will work.
Discard any discs you previously used in this machine which may have triggered the error.
Composite output has ghosting around
Try reducing your sharpness value on either your TV or the player if applicable. Also disable any edge enhancement or "DVE" modes on the TV if applicable.
The easiest way to adjust sharpness control by the naked eye is with a calibration disc. Alternatively however, just for sharpness if you have a screen full of text and/or lines do the following;
Reduce your color/saturation value all the way down...this will make the picture black and white.
Then reduce your sharpness control until the "ghosting" effect or any additional white lines on text edges and line edges disappear.
Then you can return your color/saturation value back to normal.
Hope this helps!
MyToshiba 160HD4 160GB HD Digital Video will not
Hello
your Digital Video player has complaint on either its laser pickup unit or it connecting strip wire. Ths strip wire connected from the laser pickup unit, to the main printed circuit board has carbon tracks as conductors, not copper wires. As this strip has to move along with the laser picup unit while it tracks the disc, there is a possibility to get some or even any one of its track breaked. Even one has got breaked, the data that passes through that conductor won't reach the main system control Ic on the mainboard, it won't recogonize the disc. The break may be so small and microscopic that we can't see with our naked eye.
You just replace the strip wire first and see the effect. There will be clips fitted with this strip wire on both ends, that can be pulled out with some sharp instrument, like a small screw driver. You can do it by yourself, but must do with patience and concentration.
If you need furthermore assistance, feel free to get me through Fixya. OK.
