Make sure the output resolution of your laptop (or PC) is also at 1024 x 768, anything higher than that, the projector will not recognize.

Have you reset the lamp timer ?

If you have and the problem stil occurs you will have to replace the Ballast ( lamp's powersupply ) This is a very common problem with this specific HP model.

Hold the FN+CRT/LCD or (it could be an icon/image of a screen) simultanesouly and then keep press the CRT/LCD key it should eventually get around to displaying an image

Try setting the projector to VGA instead of RGB input if you can, you should be able to toggle though input modes.

Make sure that the resolution of the laptop is equal or lower to that of the projector.

It's likely to be a Dirty filter. You may be able to clean it from the outside with a vacuum cleaner. If you can remove it, so much the better, as you may want to wash it out (gently) and/or vacuum (gently also, since it won't likely have the louvers on it that the housing does, and the media could get sucked out.) If that doesn't do it, let me know.

Here's the fix: Take off the top cover of the projector. Unplug the wire leading from the two fans in the back of the unit to one of the circuit boards in front of you. Just trace one wire from fan to board. Unplug at board. Turn unit on and it will again turn on, show HP splash screen and then shut down, like it should, because the fans are now disabled. After it completly shuts down, plug the fan wire back into the board. Turn the unit back on and, presto, its working again. It will not turn off.

I actually fixed this myself!!!! Same thing, new bulb, fans work, turn on for first 20 seconds or so, see HP splash screen and then it shuts down. Try below....It worked for me.

Without doing some tests this is difficult to know.

I do not remember if the bulb in this model is a gas discharge type or a filament type. I will first indicate here for the filament type.

Make sure that the unit is switched off, and is unpluged from the AC mains.

With a DVM it is possible to check the socket contacts. The unit would have to be unassembled to gain access to the lead wires that go to the socket, and the socket disconnected. With the lamp installed, use the ohms scale to see if the resistance of the bulb's filament can be measured.

If the socket contacts are okay, it is possible that the fault is the power supply to the bulb, or it can that there is a cooling fault, or maybe the bulb itself has an intermittant where when it gets heated up it temporarily becomes open circuit.

The way that most electronic equipment is designed today, it is microprocessor controled. There are sensors for temperature, current draw, quality of voltage regulation, air flow for cooling, specific performance checks, and other similiar things. If there is an error, the uPC will shut the unit down. In most cases, an error code of sorts is indicated. In some equipment, there is no displayed error code.

For the gas discharge type of bulb, to test the socket contacts to the bulb, instead of measuring the heater resistance, you will need a dummy insert to replace the bulb that has a zero resistance for testing the socket. You insert the dummy tester, and measure of the leads with the DVM to indicate if the contacts are okay to the bulb.

A less sure way to test the socket contacts is to disconnect the socket from the supply, and measure the resistance of each lead to its respective contact in the socket. This will indicate if there is open or closed resistance to the socket contacts, but does not respect the tollerance for the contacts to make a connection to the bulb contacts on its base.

In the service shop, after all the above has been done, the tech would do his tests by trying modules and parts until the fault is located. That is if the fault was not the socket.

Your Projector is overheating , check if all the fans are running.

I can almost guarantee you that one of the fans is faulty !
