2006 42'' Samsung rear projection, Balist????

A Ballast is a circuit that provides voltage to Lamp. Ballasts are only used with TV's with a Lamp. According to your model number this unit does not use a lamp. That model number uses 3 rear-projected CRTs. The most common units with a ballast would be a DLP HDTV.

The Model number you specified HCN4226W is a unit made in 2003. However you stated in your subject line that this was a Samsung unit from 2006. Please verify your model number.

Samsung tv

as far as it turning off on its own I would get a fan on it and see if that make a difference make sure that the fan is able to flow around the tv especially through the back of it, if this stops it from turning off then it is an overheating problem

Hi,

Hitachi Convergence

Check out the Convergence Gallery. If you see the colored outlines or color shading as in the Gallery, you have a convergence problem.

The repair for a Hitachi requires the replacement of the defective IC or ICs and any damaged or smoked resistors. Some models don't have a separate convergence board and the board is not usually available for the ones that do have a separate convergence board. Usually there is little alignment required after the repair. If you play with all the adjustments before the fix, hours may be spent re-aligning.

If you change the original ICs with substitute "new and improved" parts that are talked about in the blogs, you will probably create problems. Use the original ICs and resistors.

Don't monkey with it.

This is a delicate and difficult repair. If not done by someone with some electronic repair experience, the TV will likely end up as junk or cost considerably more for a tech to fix the damage done.

If you live in Calgary, call me. If elsewhere, find a competent tech.

Hi,

The most common problem with all 3 tube rear projectors is a damaged convergence circuit. The Samsung TVs are easier to repair than many others and the numbers that break down is not excessive. For every Samsung with a convergence problem there are a large number that did not breakdown. The fault is caused by bumps or noise in the AC power, not the TV design. This usually produces colored outlines around heads, etc.

no it's not reasonable at all.if you are positive that it is a comvergence problem you can go to bestbuy and do a part search and get a complete convergence board for aroung $100 depending on where you live because of shipping. i live in ohio and i just replaced mine and it cost me $95.67 thats tax and shipping and was very easy to install about 10 minutes.

SOMETIMES I CAN SEE A BLUE DOT ON SCREEN

Most manufacturers consider a few dud pixels to be normal and not a defect. Especially if not in the center of the picture.

Don't get fixated with watching the dot, look at the overall picture. It is like staring at a pimple on a pretty lady's chin.

Samsung 42" tv sp43w6hpx

Toni, There is nothing short of calling a technician and letting the expert try and solve the problem. As you can see, setting the geometry on a grid in those can be challenging - years ago we had to do that with numbers only and do a quick math conversion to know how far we had pushed that line. The good news is it's probably not an expensive repair unless the changes have added any stress to the convergence circuit and caused any damage. If you need any help in loacting a reputable shop in your area you might try: http://www.nesda.com/locator/state_search.php National Electronic Service Dealer's Assn. for a member shop. Kinda like using the AMA to find a doctor. Good Luck Bill

HCN4226W convergence board

SAMSUNG Convergence Board

I don't recommend working on the TV unless you have some experience and knowledge relating to the safety issues and electronic repair. Many rookies will not successfully complete the repair and probably do more harm than good.

Open the back of the TV. The board is in front of you, a small separate board with small plugs attached. If you think you are competent enough to remove it and replace it without damage to yourself or the TV, go for it.
Website below gives some description of costs with in home repair of convergence problems.

If you live around Calgary, Alberta try me.
Or try to the find the repairperson part of this website (on the Homepage) and search postal code. Maybe you will be lucky and someone from your area is listed for Projection TV repair.

Most rookies doing this job will cause damage and not be successful. They will pay double for someone to fix their mess or end up scrapping the TV. It is not a simple task. It is more difficult than batteries on a remote.

Good Luck

Problem with Samsung TV

SAMSUNG Convergence Problem

It looks like blue convergence. Look at menu, select convergence and see if blue top is bent down on convergence adjust screen. Probably won’t adjust.

Some Samsungs have convergence IC’s on a separate convergence board in the back of the TV. Others have the IC’s mounted on the main deflection board. Either way the board has to be removed to get at the dud IC’s and associated burnt resistors.

You remove the appropriate board, determine if any resistors are burnt or damaged, replace any burnt or out of tolerance resistors, replace 1 or 2 IC's and re-install the board.

Now you have to adjust it to look like new.

If the unit has not been misadjusted and everything is OK now, running the auto focus may put the picture back to it’s previous stunning quality, as it was before IC failed.

If after self or autofocus it is still misadjusted noticeably, try the customer convergence adjustments. Operators’ manuals are available on web through searching.

If convergence can not be adjusted properly, you messed up chip install or resistors may be wrong value or open; or it needs major adjustment.

If you live around Calgary, Alberta try me instead:
