RCA F25442 25" TV Questions & Answers
TV TURNS ON BY ITSELF IN MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT HELP
If you have eliminated the obvious things the tv must have a fault...
The obvious things - a night prowler with a remote, a cat walking across your remote, a ghost that likes to watch tv, somebody sleepwalking...
It is possible the infra red signal needed to switch on the tv is not coming from your remote. You can test this by removing the batteries or taking the remote to bed with you. If the tv still turns on then tape over the infra red receiver on the tv to eliminate the chance of some stray infra red beam from elsewhere being the culprit. If that stops the tv turning on you need heavier curtains or blinds or the tv moving perhaps, but if the tv still switches on it has a fault.
There is another thought. Digital TVs and digiboxes are often programmed to wake up periodically to check for software updates. Mine wakes up at 3am but it only checks for software updates and doesn't switch on the tv, but maybe this is what your tv is doing.
A further thought - a tv often has the functions of an alarm clock. They have a sleep function so they can switch themselves to standby after you have fallen asleep and then can wake you in the morning. Perhaps the alarm has been inadvertantly set for 2am?
These days it is rather anti-social to leave any appliance on standby. Rather than unplugging the set every night and worrying about the kids, why not arrange for the tv to be plugged in to a switched outlet so the kids can switch it on or alternatively use a cheap plug-in timeswitch to prevent the set switching on in the wee small hours...
On screen writing over past the left side
Ok, so I'm seeing RCA TV, but you're talking about writing, so I'm wondering if you're using this TV as a monitor? If that's the case, it could be dependent on the the video card settings. If not, the input device. You could possibly have your view mode set to stretch or something like that. Maybe look in the settings on the monitor and see if it'll let you do a factory reset.
Tv is stuck on channel
Try turning the TV off and turning it back on. If that doesn't work try going into the menu and performing a program of the TV. Most TV's will have an option to program the channels. It sounds like your TV has only one channel programmed.
Just got this tv from
The horizontal line indicates the vertical deflection circuit is not working. Either the set is stuck in service mode for adjusting color (turns off vertical), or the deflection circuit has failed.
Some RCA TV sets have a "Service" switch in the back, down near the bottom of the set. Most of the newer sets use a combination of remote control and front panel buttons to get into service mode, and that can be turned off by unplugging the set and plugging it back in. Try looking for the mechanically operated service switch in the back first.
Can't find button on tv to change source in order to play dvd
I'm assuming that you do not have access to the remote for the TV. If you do, you can simply press "INPUT" on the remote.
If you have no remote, try this:
Press the "MENU" button on the TV.
Press "CH Down" until "Channel" is highlighted, and "MENU" to select it.
Press "CH Down" to highlight "List and Labels", and "MENU" to select it.
Press "CH Down" to go below channel 1, you should see "FRNT" displayed.
Press "MENU" to get out of the Menu system.
You should now be seeing whatever is plugged into your front connectors.
Simply pressing one of the channel buttons will switch back to normal TV mode. I could find no faster way to access the front connectors without using the remote.
Seeing red !
I had a television that went to a bright shade of blue.A friends neighbor worked for sony television plant where the new tubes came down the assembly line. His job was to make sure tubes were working fine,if one color was dominant then his job was to smack the front center of the tube with a rubber mallot to fix the problem. He suggested i try that with my tube while the set was on.It worked and solved my blue problem.Apparently he explained, the gun connections in the tube came loose and to fix it was to smack it this caused the connection to reweld itself. For you I would use the palm of an open hand and smack the tube dead center with a good hard smack.Dont be afraid of breaking the glass because its very thick and strong.Give this a try.Hope it helps.Good luck!
Squealing set
It looks like an output transistor problem.
You can't fix it by yourself; you will need to call a service.
It will cost you at least 100$, so consider buying a new one
good luck
Black and white screen only on DSTV?
RCA video cables handle analog signals. HDMI cables carry digital video signals. You need a converter. If you are using a component video converter, check if you swapped two of the three RCA video cables. (There are some A/V projectors that can do the translation of RCA and HDMI internally. Most TVs do not.)
I hope this helps.

(One of my family's TVs used a dongle to condense the analog video signal to a single port, swapping blue and green gave a black and white output, IIRC.)
I have an RCA re20qp80 remote that the mute button doesn't work
Most modern tv remotes are not normally designed to be repaired. You will possibly need to replace it. there are plenty of cheaper after market version that will do the job just as well. Your other option, and yes I know this is a silly answer, when you want to mute the TV is to simply press the volume down button to zero then turn it back up when you want sound.
