Can the screen be replaced once it is cracked

Yes, and most times the screen is plastic and made of 2 or more layers. You may be able to just remove the cracked piece for now unless all the layers were cracked...

The Cable connection is broken,

Thats called the f-fitting or rf fitting. Its attached to the tuner on your set. You can either replace the whole tuner circuit or in most cases, replace the rf fitting with a new one as long as the tuner board was not damaged. We stock the fitting which are like 2 dollars a piece so I would think alot of tv shops would stock them. You could expect to pay around 125.00 or so depending on your location to have it done in your home. To do it yourself you will need to be handy with a soldering iron and be extremely careful in the tuner area not to damage surround coils..
A cheap or maybe free alternative is if your using a cable box, to just hook it up using video and audio patch cables which will bypass the TV tuner altogether. If you still have a vcr you could use it for tuning or buy a cheap converter box (as long as it has video and audio outputs) at most any local dept store.
Just run patch cable one yellow for video and the other 2 are red and white from the box to the tv. I think the boxes are around 25.00 or so

My tv looks like its in 3D

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

RCA home theater model P56926...are

Hello,

Parts Express and MCM electronics sometimes has a few screens available, but it is very hit or miss. Your best bet will be to contact area or regional service shops to see what they have in inventory as far as scrapped chassis that the screen can be salvaged from.

Depending on how exactly yours is damaged, you may be able to repair yourself. If yours is heavily scratched, polishing might restore it. If it is cracked, a sheet of Lexan might be able to be used to replace it. If the backdrop / canvas is damaged, a possible replacement might be fashioned from a pull down screen designed to be used with projectors that are located in the rear. These used to be found common in business / corporate meeting rooms used with slide projectors and such.

My picture is getting darker

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The issue is with the failed convergence (STK) ICs which needs tobe replaced. It’s not a difficult job if you want to do this yourself, you should require some basic knowledge about soldering-resoldering components. To start with you’ll have to open the back of the unit and then replace the ICs(STK ICs) which are located behind the black heat sink and also check the resistors as if they are short the ICs might blow again after sometime.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Rca rear projection sound but no picture

Is the Lamp ok? Go to the rear of the set and turn on the set with your remote while looking at the vent slats. If you can see a bright light through the vent slats then your Lamp is working. If the lamp is on and you have sound and no pix, then the Digital bd is in what we call "Video Mute" and will have to be replaced. Also make sure that the Lamp Door is installed and the screws are tight
also check to ensure the following.....
1. re-seating the DVI cable on both sides
2. Check to be sure the lamp door sensor is closing (that is not your issue but i thought i would post the complete answer)
3. Check colorwheel is spinning up (should be a low hum, and not sound like a fan)
*** it is very possible it is a failed colorwheel, but the set should go into shutdown, so it is probably not the issue.
4. If the set has sound but no picture replace DMD board....

If the set is working and then just stops working best bet is the DMD ( i would not replace just the dmd it is cheaper in most cases and much easier to replace the lightengine) but if the set just is not working and just failed and is now always not working best bet is the digital board.

If you have an osciloscope you can measure the video signal from the Digital board and see if it is present with the no picture, if it is then it is a bad DMD but if the video signal disappears of then you have a failed Digital board. You can not us a computer USB scope, they can not read most of the data from the digital board since they use multiple scan rates and wont trigger on them for some reason, a old school scope works best i have found, or one of those new LCD scopes that have an auto trigger work well i have found that it is all i use anymore.

you can find a service manual with schematics at a very cheap price at ebay......

I have a light red hot spot just right and above

You have to take front projection screen off of tv. When you have taken screen off, turn on tv and observe light coming from the three crts. Look into the face of each crt and you will notice some contamination inside face of one of the crts. Most crts are sealed, so youll have to replace the burnt crt causing spot on picture.

Convergence adjustment

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

42d3683.jpg

7859b01.jpg

e87380c.jpg
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix
