I have a 52-inch RCA Big Screen TV (rear projection) that I won 13 years ago. The other day I noticed that after the television is on for a little bit, and watch able, I then lose the picture; the screen turns blue and has white squiggly lines through it. Can't watch it, but IT DOES still have sound. Any suggestions BEFORE I have to contact a repairman to come take a look at and repair? Thank you for your help.
tv worked great, turned it off one day and back on the next and the on light would not come on nor would the tv work, rear projection 52 inch rca

Hello, Somehow while looking for resistor assortment kits I ended up at this site, and found other people having similar problems to mine. One day after a lightning storm the TV started to display a hourglass picture and the colors were severly out of convergence. While trying to adjust convergence through the menu the TV would shut off numerous times. Another dedicated person spent hours adjusting the convergence so that it was watchable but the screen is still hourglassed. We took it to a repairman turned police officer who fixes TV's in his spare time and said that the light box needed to be replaced and a whole cascade of stuff needed to be replaced as well but did not go into details. Upon first powering it up everything was fine for a few hours, and then the problem occured again. I was not in the room at the time so I am not sure how the transition from good to bad occured. So I am wondering what direction to go in now, the repair was around $300 initially and aside from throwing the TV out or giving it away I would like to try fix it. I am an electrical engineering student so I am familiar with circuits and such, but of course the education is focused on construction rather than repair. Would checking the solder joints on the convergence IC's, and checking resistors and capacitors for opens/shorts be a good first step? Should I just try to replace the convergence IC's and see what would happen, would it be worthwhile? Aside from that what would some other circuits in the TV that are suspect to failure of this sort be?
Look for connector J19105 which may not be seating properly. Unfortunatly by trying to adjust the convergence, you may have to go back and redo those adjustments if the connector is your original problem. Otherwise, using a good magnifier and checking over the connections around the convergence IC's and looking for burnt resistors might be a good second step.

MY tv is 2 years old, been used alot, (wife leaves it on for the dog all day), the other day, it went crazy. looks like i have either 2 or three images of different color kinda like shadows of them selfs but completey different color like 1 red one blue. also when i access the menu controls all the words are out of alignment as well as curved. auto converge as well as manual converge will not fix the problems. i powered down down unpluged for days to see if that would help.. but no change at all... any sugestions? thanks
You have to have your tubes re-alined, they sometimes do that if the tv has been bumped or jared.

i want to know if i can take my screen off to clean it on the other side.. I can see cobwebs hanging in the inside. can u help me
CRT Rear-Projection - Before you can begin cleaning, you need to determine if you do, or do not have a screen shield. A screen shield is a hard plastic cover over the front of the TV screen. If you can't tell, give the front of the TV a light tap. Another way to tell is to check for ridges in the screen area. If you can feel ridges on the screen, then you do not have a screen shield. Rear projection TVs without a screen shield require a special kind of cleaner and rag. These are available for purchase at your local TV service center. Those that do have a screen shield should be cleaned with a dry or damp soft cloth. If it's extremely dirty, a mild soap may be used. Do not use paper products, such as paper towels, to clean the screen shield. Paper products can easily scratch the surface of the shield. Screen shields can have a tendency to streak while cleaning. If this happens, use a dry cloth and buff the screen in a small circular motions.

somtime iam watching tv and the channels keep switching turning on and off on its own , what can i do to solve this problem
Remove the remote(or take out the batteries)from the room to be sure it's not sending out signals. If that dosn't work the problem is likely that the buttons on the front key pad are sending out signals -the front key pad board can be unplugged and you can still use the remote. let me know if you have further questions

From reading the Forums I believe my Convergence board needs to be swapped. I don't think the RCA D52W26 has IC's to change out the STK's, Wouldn't I need to replace the Board? Can the D52W20 Covergence Board be used to do this?
Yes the D52W20 and the D52w26 are both ITC222 chassis they are exactly the same

Hi Mr Circuitcity,
I hope all is well with you. I have a RCA rear projection TV model P52923. I was watching a show when it just turned off. I tried to turn it back on, but it would not nothing happened. No video or audio. I tried both the remote control and the TV buttons but it still would not turn on.
I opened the back panel and check the small glass fuse in the power supply (chassis # CTC195K3). The fuse is good. This fuse is near the 120V supply chord. There is no coolant leak.
When the TV is plugged in, I hear a ticking sound that gradually slows down and disappears. There is trace of black/brown hardened cake on the top of the flyback (looks like varnish, tar, or burnt insulation.) But I know that the caking has been there because it is covered with dust.
What do I check next? I have training in electronics but not really heavy on televisions.
Please help. The wife has been on my case since HER television broke down. (My only test instrument is a digital multi-meter.)
I could not find the model number of my TV from the products listed on the tab. So I picked the closest one which is RCA P52926.
Thank you very much
Alejo
Good Day, Ajejo;
Sorry I'm not Circuit City, but work for them for many years down here in TX.
The chassis number is the best way to find out information about the TV. The CTC195K3 is very commonly known to have bad 'flyback'. The crusting you indicated on top of said transformer is the indication that it is defective, I've changed 80-90 of them over the years.
So, job well done, your wife must be proud of you.
Part information: Location; T14401, Part Number; 239111, Name; IHVT, Integrated High Voltage Transformer.
Caution when replacing the fly, looking at the bottom, the pins are shaped like a horse shoe. At the closed end there is an separate pin. Make sure new has the extra pin (for focus), Iv'e had many lately that does not have it.
Good Luck, big IRISH. PS; good job good eye let me know.

how to remove screen on projection screen tv 56"rca model#p56926
Remove the speaker cover on the front, it just pulls off. Pry each side a little at a time. There are 4 screws that hold the screen on. Remove them and the screen just lifts off. There are wires attached to the controls so, keep that in mind when lifting the screen.
