The drive motor will not be damaged as long as it is not being pried or pulled on. There should be a nut or a threaded cone to hold the pegs in place. It may be stripped or just need to be tightened.

Is the problem that you left the batteries in the battery compartment? (a no-no, BTW.)

If so, you might get away by cleaning the board--if the circuit traces and components haven't been damaged.

Try mixing a tablespoon of backing soda with a cup of warm water. Using whatever applicator seems appropriate--a Q-tip, or small brush--clean the corrosion from the board with this solution. Wipe and dry thoroughly.

Inspect the board for broken circuit traces and damaged components.

If nothing is obvious, put fresh batteries in and try it--it will work, or it won't.

If it does, congratulations. If it doesn't contact Meade customer support at this link: http://www.meade.com/support/index.html

Good Luck!

I have a Kodak camera

Try a photo shop to see if you can get a T-adaptor to fit your camera (this is for SLR cameras without lens attached - the telescope becomes the lens)

But if you mean the 55mm filter threads, ie with the lens still on the camera, then you have the wrong thing. You need instead a contraption that holds the camera in position to take photos through the eyeepiece of the telescope (ie both telescope eyepiece and camera lens remain in place). With non-SLR cameras, that is the way to do it.

Meade etx-80 sticking

Some (not all) versions have an end stop - it it just reaching that? The scope will rotate only aboit 3 complete turns between the 2 ends.

The 'correct' starting position is as follows: Place scope on tripod or table with control panel at the West. Unlock the declination lock (horizontal slew). Rotate scope anticlockwise until it hits the end stop, Then roate it back clockwise until scope is pointing North (should be about 3/8 of a turn, as the end stop is at South West). Then lock the declination, Set the tube horizontal and continue with the alignment process.

Autostar always thinks you have set the position like that. If you haven't, it will work OK until it tries to rotate past the point it won't go, then chaos results!

Need instruction manual for 1996 or 1997 etx 90 basic model

The manuals are all available to download from www.meade.com.

If your scope has the motor drives and a control panel into which a controller could be plugged, then you just need to buy an Autostar 497 - always available on eBay for about £85. However, there are older models of the ETX which only have one motor or as a spotting scope for terrrestrial use with no motors - Autostar cannot be connected to these.

Look at the pictures of scopes on eBay which come with Autostar - if your looks like these, Autostar will fit. Else you are out of luck!

ETX-90 Focus

I suggest trying a different eyepiece first to see if that's the problem. Otherwise, if it was moved without adequate protection, there is a chance the mirror was shifted or damaged. A damaged mirror can't really be fixed since it's specs are very rigid. If it turns out to be a problem with the mirror the best thing to do is find an expert on telescope mirrors to try and fix the problem.
