If you have the model listed have fun----Geometry values are depicted in the Convergence section---the grid of GREEN lines determines geometry and red and blue are then adjusted to the Green.Primitive: Set had at one time two overlays available--clear plastic you attached to screen to line the that Green grid up against---one for 480 and one for 1080.Once the geometry is set (best possible) you must align convergence and save it in both the modes one at a time.By current standards a Fred Flintstone system--but in its day a real pain as alignment can take many hours with the correct remote via the tech menu for convergence.

Possible that the outputs have failed , it can be loss of voltage to the filament or that the tube by itself is defective.It is important to take a test after removing the panel to check the +B , check the working of the deflection circuit and the outputs before confirming the voltages to the picture tube.Loss of any of these can be a reason and so a circuit test with an idea of the voltage to the tube is important.
This needs to be confirmed if the blue and green circuits are in order, it is important that you are able to remove the rear panel after disconnecting power and checking the working of the blue and green outputs so as to confirm if this is a power issue or a failure of the drive.

1) no as long as they are correctly seated and routed.
2) if you can't adjust the red in any way, not even the smallest, then either you have a bad connection between the red tube deflection coils and the convergence board or you were indeed unlucky and got the chip fried. 3) sparkly artefacts are caused by discharges in or near the video final board, the one that holds the transistors that directly control the tubes. - You either have a bad connection in one of the cables or the high tension leads (the big red ones that plug directly in the tubes on their sides) are set too close to other elements and the high tension leaks. 4) either the tube support isn't correctly/square fitted and they are set at an angle to the screen - refit it - or the convergence board has failed - since you also have 2) it more likely. 5) the whistling comes from the transformers in the power board, they are severely overstressed by a board that requires way much more power than it should - again, that points to a convergence board failure.
I would certainly challenge the fact that your SSB is bad. This SSB is known as the the small signal board. This board is a little larger than a credit card and is seated on top of the signal module( The board with all the RCA jacks and RF connections). It is located inside the TV on the left side of the rear of the TV. I must caution you, the replacement board will exceed any expectations you may have for repair. The cost of this SSB will be near $300 dollars. Then you will need a TV tech to enter the software to correct geometry. This SSB controls the screen size and colors (gray scale) and sound, etc. Sorry to lay the hard core facts. But it will not be feasible to repair this aging TV. I have seen and repaired many of these when they were under warranty! Thanks for asking and show all hands of support.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.
the high voltage runs the picture tubes. you have a bad high voltage transformer (large signal board) or something wrong with the anode wires (big red ones) or could be a bad tube. this has 30,000 volts so be careful or call a Pro.
The chirping signifies that your switch mode power supply is being overloaded. You probably have a shorted horizontal output transistor. But, it is nearly always my professional opinion that one should always get a "Quote" from the manufacturers recommended service center, Phillips, in your case, please contact a local or head office and ask for a referral to an Authorised service center. I cannot stress how important that last point is. It is even worth the cost of shipping. You see an authorised service agent, will have trained staff, trained on their brand, also they have first hand access to parts, original parts. This will actually save you money and ensure you can actually get it back fixed. Of course asking for a "Quote" also gives on the option of repair or replace. Often my clients,do not go through with repair, unless it is moderate, but in some of the more costly jobs they see it, as do i, that a replacement, with a warranty, is a better option. As an aside here, one could then tear the TV down, and sell the Known Good bits. You'd be surprised who needs parts, i myself often must by from third party sources to effect a repair. So money could be recouped, somewhat,and help out someone else.
