Hi , my phillips magnavox

Something in wrong either in the high tension transformer (the flyback) and the voltage delivered by it is lower than what it should be or the signal delivered by the synchro processor to the deflection modules is not stable.
To find out which and why this is happening the tv will have to be opened and tested. Since the high tension will be very close to where the tests will have to be done, the testing must be done only by an experienced repairman - just getting near to the wrong part could trigger a spark large enough to kill you on the spot.

Coolant in crts needs changed. May not be cost affective. You need special equipment and much skill. If you can find servicer that can do it ask them before you schedule the call for what thie wouls cost. I would charge around $350.00. Go view a new set at 1080i and it this set at it;s best is not even close.

What does it mean if

That is usually caused by bad CRT coolant in the green and Blue CRTs which males the Red CRT dominate. Looking into the lenses of the blue and green will verify just compare them to the red. If they all look the same then the coolant is good and you have a Red CRT issue which will require replacement in most cases.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Power supply not turning on

Hello,

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.

I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

Have a philips 9p6034c103 that

If you can remove the back cover off the TV, do so. Be sure your TV is unplugged of course. You will see two large boards on the floor of the TV. If you can look between the two boards, you will find three or four jumper connections that connect these two boards. Remove jumper jack (location # 1516). Now plug your TV, power your TV up. The TV will come on. You may notice your convergence is off considerably. To correct this, there are two different ways to repair this. Contact www.TvRepairKitscom. This website is very helpful, and will lead you to a repair. The second idea is to contact Union Electronics at 1 800 648 6657. You will be purchasing or sending your board in for repair. You will tell them, you are need of a signal board module (has all the RCA jacks and RF connections). In both cases, you will need the model number and chassis number. Try this advice, I think we are on the right track. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!
