If the problem is the IR sensor, then the TV will turn on and work using the buttons on TV, but wont react to remote.
If instead the TV does not turn on all all , then the TV is on protection because of an internal fault , and must be tested and fixed by a technician.
Replacing IR sensor is not complicate, but t is not an user level operation.
The IR sensor is usually located on the front bottom side of the TV, therefore to replace it you need to remove the main board completely, and many other parts.
Additionally on many models the sensor is soldered to the digital board.
If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.
