I cant get it to
Try shutting down your computer and reboot it, once when windows is done loading, tryling clicking the button to open it. Make sure that there is nothing it is path that may be stoping it. Once when you click on the button look to see if there is any noise of activity. if there, but it does not open you may have somthing that is not letting the tray open up. Make sure you clear, and clean its path. If there is no sound from it or activity. Try opening it logically, by going into "my computer" in windows then right clicking your cdrom drive and select open. it is still does not, you will have to crack that pc open to look under the hood. make sure all data/power connecters are plugged in and secure. If they all are, then you may have a faulty cdrom drive and will need to get it replaced. hope this helped

Can i format my HD on an external bases with my
Technically, YES, the hard drive can be formatted as an external (with the appropriate equipment) on your laptop (if there are still files on it, you may even be able to extract them from it) but it still won't be bootable because it does not have an operating system on it.
That would be the part where you need the recovery disc. Windows setup programs from these boot discs already have the format utility so if there aren't any files to extract from the drive, you can skip to reinstalling Windows on the desktop and formatting it in the process.
Bottom line is that you need a Windows installation disc to make the hard drive bootable again, regardless of where you format it.
I dont know how to
On your front panel of your CD rom you will see a small hole insert a small needle that can press the lock of the cd rom eject and it will open. You can use a paper clip.

MY EMACHINE T3306 is saying cd/dvd isnt present in
This could be due to a missing or corrupt driver. To verify (assuming you are using XP), right click "My Computer" select "Manage". On the left-hand side of the window, select "Device Manager". Check tosee if your installed device or any device for that matter is located under the heading CD/DVD drives. If there are no entries and you do have a CD/DVD drive installed on the computer, try restarting to see if it will reinstall the device. If this does not work, the drive may not be connected or is bad. Turn off the computer, open the computer and you will see a ribbon cable coming out of the back of the drive. Verify that this cable is plugged into both the drive and motherboard securely (the slots will look like long, slim rectangular boxes with tiny metal rods standing up inside of them). If the drive is securely connected and the machine does not see the device when turned on, the drive is probably bad. If the device manager does have an entry for the drive and there is a question mark next to it, this means the driver for the drive is missing or corrupt. I have checked the emachines website and they do not have drivers for CD/DVD drive for your model. You will have to check the drives manufacturer's website to see if they have a driver for you drive.

Maybe go to the device manager in control panel and click on Device Manager look for the HID Compliant mouse or touch pad and un-install the driver completely after that restart your computer as soon as it boots up it will find new hardware and take you through the setup process most computers does this for you after it says installation complete try the touch pad if nothing happens try pressing the Fn keeping it down press the F7 button then release them both if still nothing happens then it will be your motherboard as it will required going back to them under their warranty to be fixed.
I have a e-machine when
Hi dmsirois58,
To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start Start button, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
--> User Account Control permission
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution: There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, if you have UpperFilters, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, if you have LowerFilters, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.
I am being told to stick a paper clip in the hole
Generally there is a small hole under the tray. (The tray is where the disk sits in)
You may have a eMachines desktop computer, where there is an outer door which flips down, and the tray slides out.
Ease the outer door down, and see if the optical drive unit (CD/DVD drive) has a small hole under the tray.
If not then unplug the computer from power, observe Anti-Static Precautions, and open the computer case. Remove the Front Panel. (Plastic front of computer. Now remove the optical drive, and open it up.
I need the Model Number of your eMachines to be more detailed.
Post in a Comment.

I own eMachine Notebook e525
> there is no icon for the CD-drive
Probably means that either:
* no electrical power is reaching the CD-ROM drive
* no "data" is being transferred to/from the drive
* the electronics inside the CD-ROM drive have "died"
Check the "power" and "data" connectors.
If necessary, replace the drive with a new CD/DVD reader/writer.
Hi
I have a G640 model
Does the disk get scratched when you take it out? What is the loud noise like exactly? One continuous long scrrrr noise, or something like a tapping noise?By download, you are referring to burning? Do the disks come out working fine and readable by other devices or computers? You can try to put in a disk cleaner disk, such as :http://www.amazon.com/Maxell-DVD-LC-Lens-Cleaner-Blue/dp/B00000JPPI/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1308503466&sr=1-7You can find disk cleaner things like that in bestbuy or radioshack. I am referring to cleaning the disk drive lens, not the disk itself.Try to use a different disk brand, and if all else fails, I suggest giving it back via warranty, as most likely it is a mechanical problem with the drive itself, in which case you would not be able to fix it yourself unless you take it apart and try to find what is making the noise, which could take a while depending on your experience with electronics.

When start up my Emachine
It seemed that the laptop is booting to the network to correct this
1. Go to the BIOS Check if the hard drive is detected by the computer (Hard drives are usually shown as alpha numeric)
2. If the hard drive is detected make sure that the hard drive is the first boot device
3. Save all changes and restart the computer
4. If the hard drive is still not detected you have to take out the hard drive and put it back in (reseat the hard drive)
5. Go to the BIOS again check if the hard drive is detected if not replace the hard drive
Hope this helps
