your set may have blown its y sus board and i know the x sus board is part of the plasma display panel either way your looking at a very expensive repair if your not warrantied

I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsun. Know to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio conections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the location of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check a Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. When it looks like its going to start up and it dosent then its an indication that one of the sweeps didnt start up. When you hit the power switch, the power supply sends an ok signal to start up the horizontal and vertical oscillators. When these start up they go to there respective drive circuits and then the vertical will send a signal to the power supply to keep on going so then the horizontal circuit starts up and sends an ok signal to keep going so then the set comes ob,\. If one of the two doesent start up and stay running then the power supply shuts down. To troublwe shoot these sets you need a service manualo and a good multmeter and a scope wouldnt hurt slso. This set has no user servicable parts inside of her so you need to take the set to a pro to assist you in the repair. Good Luck

This can be a combination of things. The main power supply may have failed, or there is a short putting it in to protect mode. It is also possible that the back plane supply and or lamps have failed.

did you have a service contract with them?
if so the have to replace it.
call the manufacturer.

Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!

I'm assuming that you have checked that the sound is not muted. To confirm that a reset to factory settings is the next procedure: Menu - Setup - General - Factory settings. If you don't see/hear any modifications then it's a hardware defect, not something with the settings.
This happens when the tv thinks that the headphones are used. Simple test to confirm that: plug in a pair of speakers and see if you get the sound on them. If you get and the situation doesn't changes when you unplug them then this is a mechanical defect: the small switch inside the headphone jack is faulty and keeps signaling that the headphones are plugged in when they are not.
The only way to fix that is to replace the jack, which involves a very delicate soldering procedure , one that only a good repairman can do - you must call one.
