when i turn on my philips 20 in flat tv i have no picture, just black screen with a tik tik sound

you have to go into the TV (Menu) to do it?

i found out on line in the owners manual that if u still have a remote control that came with the tv, u press the tv/av button and enter button at the same time to disable the child lock. New problem: u can't do it with a universal remote, even if its programmed to a magnavox tv. I called the 800 # to buy a remote control and the rep told me that it cost $50, not including the shipping and handling. so my husband put the tv in the car, brought an extension cord and took it to a local tv repairman who was kind enough to use his remote to remove the child lock for us. finally someone who is helpful for free. thanks to all the nice people out there!

yes you can use a universal to turn off/on the tv unit, just make sure it was program to in your tv so it was recognized by the IR sensor of the tv.

I have so many people ask me this you can only control your TVs menu with the original remote to that tv.Universals wont do it.

You have not specified the condition of audio with your TV. If audio [sound] is present, and no picture is the fault, the horizontal output section circuit should be trouble shooed. In most cased, this type of fault can occur if the LOT {line Output Transformer} has damaged. It will be best to contact any experienced service technician to confirm the fault. Philips sets use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The override code for Philip sets is 0711, although it may say "Incorrect code" the first time to trick you.
