NO, you put it in the HOME position BEFORE you star your alignment.

There should be a screw hole in the bottom of the tube and or two screw holes one on each side of the tube.

In the first example all you need is a photo tripod and screw the tube on it-- in the second you are missing the "fork arms that attach to the telescope -- like this picture:

I believe the Classic requires you to press the Mode key to start tracking.

Have you installed new hand controller cables and a new DEC cable just to make sure it is not a cable problem.

You do have batteries inside? I suppose. If you do the power panel light should be on (red)--- if it is the scope is powered up BUT THE CORD going to the hand controller is broken. Buy a new hand controller cord.

If the power light is NOT on then a circuit board is probably defective inside the scope base. Meade can repair this but you must send them the telescope.

There is a small set-screw near the focuser shaft. Is it tight?

Also you may need to open up the focuser and see if the gears are not stripped.

This is entirely normal. Telescopes made for astronomical use traditionally don't bother with the extra elements needed to invert the image (they absorb light and add reflections and distortion).

Could be anything from a bad hand controller cable, LOW battery power, or a blown out hand controller.

Check the cable and the batteries first.
