Try this.

1. Do a RESET on the hand controller.

2. Reenter your Site, Date, and Time.

3. Calibrate Motors

Now see if that fixed it. If not it will need to be returned to Meade because a gear or circuit is broken inside the scope.

Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the TOP of the scope eyepiece holder.

Practice focusing on a distant object during the daytime. It may take several turns of the focuser know.

Also check the TINY setscrew on the side of the focuser knob. It may be loose and need tightening so it will GRIP the focuser shaft.

I actually have the same series as you and I am missing a cord its the aux cord it says and its the shape as a land line phone outlet just bigger but I looked at my local Kmart,radio shak They looked at me like I was crazy lol

Have you checked eBay?

There is a hole in the side with turn wheels to adjust focusing, that is where you should plug in your viewing lens.

Is repair cost effective after all these years?

There is also a model LX200-R; the manual for this model is at http://www.meade.com/downloads/dl/file/id/13/product/0/lx200_r_manual.pdf . Have you tried the manufacturer's website or support services ?

I suspect that what you have is a combination of two problems: 1. you are very far out of focus, and 2. you have too much magnification. Here's what I would do. Point your scopt at some distant trees. Use your lowest power eyepiece, and run the focus all the way from one end to the other. At some point, you should see the tree leaves....
