Dvd player tell me disk error

this could be aproblem with the lens which is unable to read the disk. this could be caused by accumulation of dirt on the disk sensor. open up the cover of the dvd player to access the lense and clean gently with a lense cleaner(a liquid purposely meant for cleaning the lense) apply this liquid on a soft piece of cloth and clean. close back the cover and power the dvd player it should now be able to load the disk

Good day!!!

Most common problems
  • VCR refuses to FF or REW and shuts off.
  • VCR shuts off entering PLAY or REC or at random during PLAY or REC.
  • VCR eats tapes.
  • VCR doesn't accept tapes or ejects them without cause.
  • Sound is wavery, fluctuating, or muddy.
The cause for all of these is very often a bad idler tire or other dirty, worn, or tired rubber parts

My philips dvd/vcr recorder

  • Hi, i can help.

  • A couple things could be going on here. One thing is it could be very very dirty and need a good cleaning. Use a cleaning tape or open it and clean the head with a sating cloth and head cleaner. Never use Q-Tips. If you use a VCR head cleaner I would run it through several times.

  • Another thing is your VCR could be having break failure. If the supply hub has brake that is not releasing when it should then the VCR things that the tape is at the end and tries to rewind.

  • Sometimes a tape can be wound a bit to tight and a few taps on both flat sides will loosen the tape up.

  • Can be the belt drive of the gears stripped inside the VCR as well.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Disc inserts and ejects with no problems but once

Hi tiro079,
If you have necessary tools and test instruments, know safety precaution in basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust and any fine foreign objects the optical lens can't read any disc. If you have a DVD Lens cleaner, play it to the unit. If this is not available you may manually clean the optical lens. Open the cover and gently clean the eye of the lens by smooth, clean, soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this, just a gentle stroke only.
2.Check the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc, this is because of the movement of the optical lens back-and-forth. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the spindle motor - Check the spindle motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.

Hint : Most of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

I can not get timer

Good day!!!

E40 means "Some portion has not been recorded because of program overlapping. Recording time did not start at start time."

Don't feel bad or dumb. Virtually everyone (including me) made the same mistake you did. The owner's manual does explain the entire process thoroughly and correctly, on pages 30-31 under TIMER RECORDING.

Using the TIMER button on the remote control permits you to build a list of up to (8) future video programming event(s) you wish to record. You performed that part of the process exactly right. However, you merely failed to place the unit in the STANDBY MODE by pressing the TIMER SET button on the remote control, which is the FINAL step in the process!

Placing the unit in STANDBY MODE effectively powers it down, just as if you'd turned it OFF as you normally do. The difference being, when the unit's in STANDBY MODE it'll automatically turn itself ON, tune to the correct channel and begin recording at the start-time specified, in the entry you made using the TIMER menu. Certainly, it would've been far more intuitive if they'd named the button STANDBY instead of TIMER SET.

If you want to use your DVDR in the meanwhile to view a DVD or VHS movie, just press the TIMER SET button on the remote control again to take it out of STANDBY mode. Just be darn sure to reinsert a BLANK DVD back in the tray and place the unit back in STANDBY MODE again, once you're done.

While overseas products (such as those made in China) are dazzlingly low in cost (due to slave labor wages) we must remember the documentation's written by people whose native language and culture is NOT the same as ours. This becomes painfully apparent upon having to decipher the documentation accompanying such products.

The vcr won't automatically accept

Probably a corroded or dirty mode switch, or a mechanical fault, which will require workshop attention by a qualified service technician. You can submit your unit for a quote, and a second opinion (on the nature of the problems and costs involved) then you can make a decision to go ahead or not. Up to you, but unless you have experience, lots of equipment and tools, an understanding of service manuals and diagrams, know what parts are needed, and how to replace them, this is a job for a licenced technician, as there may be mechanical alignment procedures to the VCR as well as repair.

They may even have to replace the entire VCR carriage assembly, since forcing tapes etc., may have caused some minor damage. No doubt they will tell you this if warranted. As I said, get a quote, then you will know for sure what you're up against in terms of repair/service charges. If the overall cost is likely to be more than the price of a new unit, cut your losses, and simply buy a new unit (or just a standalone VCR), and keep the Magnavox as a DVD player (if that part still works OK). Ebay has heaps of VCRs available, new and used.

However, if it turns out to be just a faulty mode switch, and no other damage or faults are found, it could be a simple repair - but be warned - labour charges via a service workshop can be costly, hence the suggestion to buy a new unit, if needed.

Many service centres charge a fortune just to look at it and tell you what is wrong with it. The decision is yours.

I can not get picture

This a typical symptom of a dirty video head. People get confused because there is no sound. You see most of all VCR's are designed to mute the sound till the picture is OK. So as soon as you clean the video head using a cleaning tape and get a good picture on the screen you won't get any sound.

We have a Magnavox VCR/DVD player. When pressing

I have found this to be a problem with my Magnavox MWD2205. It seems to be a problem that Magnavox (actually FUNAI CORP.) can't seem to understand and fix on their machines.

1. Pick up your remote and press the video button.
2. Press the DVD button.
3. Press the Video button.
4. Press the DVD button.

That simple. This usually works but no guarantee.

Also check on the back of you player and see what cable you have connected. Often times S-Video will be plugged in and so VCR won't function. Or VCR composite video (the little yellow round port) will be plugged in and so your digital DVD won't function either. Make sure that whatever media format you choose that your ports correspond with the chosen format.
