Hi.
The fact that the disk is new does not mean much. Often you get recording error, because the recorder 'does not like' the media. Also a new disk, even branded one, may be faulty.
Try again using disks from different brands. Try also both DVD+R (or +RW), and DVD-R (or -RW), this two system have different data error management system and write the track in different ways, even if most recorders are supposed to work well on both, many recorder will work fine in either one of the two formats.
If that does not fix the problem, then recording error is often caused by dirty lens, you can try using a lens cleaner disk, or attempt cleaning lens directly. See the article here (on reading problems, but lens cleaning procedure is the same):
My player does not read disks
If the problem is only writing, and happens with all disks, then you may have a more serious electronic problem concerning unit powering the laser, laser assembly , or control assembly. In that case the unit will need testing.
Before cleaning lens I suggest calling Emerson at the number written on the manual and verify warranty status. Often maintenance operation like lens cleaning can affect your warranty.
Regards.
