Hello,
I wonder if you ever fixed your Emerson EWH100F DVD VHS machine. I'm looking to buy one for parts. I need the DVD drive. So if it's sitting busted on a shelf somewhere please let me know. I'd probably buy it from you.

Unable to record on DVD-R Disc with my EWR20V4
I cannot record on my Emerson either and I am wondering what I should do at this point? Do I have to dispose of the unit and all the DVD's that I have recorded or is there an upgrade that will allow me to keep my unit and the Hundreds of DVD that I have?

No playback
The dvd player does not recognize discs above 2x. I contacted Emerson, they have a software upgrade they will send you for free, but you have to ask for it. I think it gives the player the ability to read up to 8x.
Dvd do not record
The unit is saying that its an "Un-format disc" problem. Is this the only error code you are getting? Also, what types of DVDs are being used? As in, DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD-RW and what speeds? 1x 2x 4x 8x 16x?
Upside down dvd inserted
FYI - This might damage the unit, but if you really need to get that DVD out then you can try this at your own risk!
Try unpluging the unit, then plug it back in and press the power button and a split second later press the eject button. This all needs to be done quickly otherwise the unit will try to load the disc.
Or
You can try letting the unit load the DVD. When the unit says "Please eject disc. Playback feature may not be avalible on this disc," press the eject button.
Using up to 16x disks
This units DVD drive is only able to spin at a max of 8x on DVD-Rs and max of 2x on DVD-RWs. Also, this unit is a - only recorder. This means if it is a +, it's not going to work.
Since the unit is a DVD-R 4x max recorder, the unit will need to have it's firmware upgraded. This will only help to record to a DVD-R 8x. You can purchase this upgrade with the manufacture of the unit. Call the 1-800 number listed in your manual and press 3. They will walk you thru the steps to find out which upgrade is needed.
Remote
You can call Emerson at their 1-800 number and press 3. This should get you to their accessories department. There you can place an order for your remote.
Ewr20v5 can't get it to show set up menu
zmomusa-Well for starters i'm guessing that you have an RF out to tv (where you hook up a coax cable).most units work on channel 3or 4,if you don't have RF out try going into tv through the video input (red ,white and yellow plugs) this may be easier and you will get better picture. If your not sure let me know I can help you. cooltekFeb18/08
VCR problem in EWR2OV4
When a VCR eats a tape, it can be cause by a couple things.
1. There is a rubber wheel called a "pincher wheel" that compresses the tape against the "capstan". The capstan is a shiny metal spindle. The pincher wheel can become worn and/or dirty from the oxide coating off of the tape. You can try cleaning the pincher wheel and capstan with alcohol or try using a re-grip solution on the pincher wheel. Last thing to do is replace the pincher wheel. Look to see that the pincher wheel is doing its job by pulling the tape through.
2. There is a small tire wheel called an idler tire. This tire pivots between the sending and pickup reels of the player. Its also used during fast forward & rewind as well as play. If the tire is worn, the tape won't be wound up as fast on the take-up reel as the sending reel during play. This means more tape is coming out than can be wound up. You can try using a re-grip solution on the idler tire or replace it.
Let me know if you need more information as to where to purchase these parts.
Good luck!
- Jim
