In photo mode (not in view mode) there is a 'format' function under 'Menu'. This erases everything on the memory card, so transfer the pictures you want to keep to a safe location first.
A download link for the manual of your camera is provided below.

All your pictures are saved on the memory card of your digital camera automatically. So you can recover your deleted pictures from memory card with third party data recovery software.I have a professional program on my computer that can recover data after deeply scanning your memory card to look for lost data you accidentally deleted or formatted. By the way,you can download it and scan your memory card for free to preview whether your erased pictures can be recovered. Get it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com

check if in the card slot is any debris. You could try to clean the contacts of the xD memory card with a dry cloth. Place the card on a flat underground and press firmly on the cloth. Don't press without a flat underground, because you could easy break the card.
It also could be some of your pictures are protected. You have to unprotect the pictures first.

I had the same problem with a Fufifilm camera. When I looked closely at the memory card I noticed a little white sliding button on the left hand side. When it is in the down position the card is locked or protected. Just slide the button up and put it back in your camera and it should work.

Press the MENU/OK button to bring up the menu. Press cursor-left to move to the tabs. Use cursor-up/down to select the SET tab (wrench icon). Press cursor-right to enter the setup menu. Use cursor-up/down to select the item with two Chinese characters, a slash, and "LANG" (speech-bubble icon).

Consider NOT using a driver.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

This camera was made at a time before everyone had standardised on "SD card". You will have to search a little to find a suitable card, because the format is now obselete.

The format you need is called xD-Picture Card and you can find a description here.

Calm. The deleted image can be obtained again, as long as memory is not broken. It can use recovery software, like recover my file or any other the similar.
