I get an communicating error code when trying to import photos to my pc
Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa (
http://picasa.google.com ).

By 'restore' do you mean recover/veiw images that were on the card, or being written to the card when the camera was dropped ?
If you cannot view the images that were on the card prior to the camera being dropped, then there is a serious problem, maybe even a cracked circuit board, which renders the camera not economically repairable.
If the problem is restricted to an image (or images) that were being written to the card when the camera was dropped, then kiss those images goodbye, since the write cycle was probably interrupted, and the images effectively do not exist on the card.
Recovering images from a card involves using a card reader and recovery software.
