Problem with SONY STR-DA555ES home stereo receiver

You may have the speakers incorrectly connected or the speakers you are using have an impedence that is too low for the amp to support.

Sound cuts out with "protector" message

Sounds like a bad speaker, or a speaker that is being over-driven.

Str-de875. Remote is suddenly not making the amp work. the remote still turns tv on/off

does the light blink more than once when you select the 'contol the reciever now' button? I assume you push a button to switch which device the remote will control, and then push another button to astually have the device do something

My receiver is getting power from the outlet, I

What did Sony have you do that DID NOT work? We don't want to re-invent the wheel here.Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on. Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up. You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it. If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good. If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Center speaker works intemittantly... right front

I would suspect that the center speaker wiring is not connected securely either at the speaker or at the amp or the wire has a intermittent break in it. I would replace that wire. The right front speaker wire I would suspect is shorted out which will cause low volume. It can also be the wire is too small which will also cause low volume. Replace that wire also. If this does not cure the problem then there is a problem with the amp or the speaker itself. Try switching the left and right speakers and if the problem moves to the left speaker you know that speaker is the problem. Make sure that one of the fine wires is nit touching the chassis of the amp at the connection.
