Sony STR-DE875 Receiver - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Volume really low, even when turned right up
So the speakers and the individual amp channels work so that lets out the obvious big hardware items.
This is starting to sound like an obscure setting was set or changed by mistake.
It would be nice to figure out what that is/was in case it happens again but you may eventually have to resort to resetting the receiver to factory defaults and start over by holding the1/0 button for 5 seconds.
When the receiver start, after 10 sec, he goes in
THE GOAL HEAR IS TO DETERMINE IF THE INSTALLATION IS CAUSING YOUR PROTECTION FAULT OR IS IT THE RECEIVER ITSELF HAVING INTERNAL DAMAGE. REMOVE THE RCA INPUTS AND DISCONNECT THE SPEAKERS, THEN POWER THE RECEIVER UP WITH THIS NO INPUT, NO SPEAKER LOAD CONDITION. IF IT STILL GOES INTO PROTECTION, THEN THE RECEIVER WILL NEED TO BE SERVICED, AS YOU HAVE TOTALLY SIMULATED A BENCHED CONDITION THAT IS TOTALLY INDEPENDENT OF YOUR INSTALLATION. MOST TIMES, THE RECEIVE WILL GO INTO PROTECTION WHEN IT SEES AN EXCESSIVE LOAD WHEN TURNING UP THE VOLUME, WHICH IS USUALLY CAUSED BY TOO MANY SPEAKERS OR DAMAGED SPEAKERS, BUT IF NO SPEAKERS CONNECTED, THEN IT IS USUALLY BECAUSE THE RECEIVER SEES AN EXCESSIVE LOAD DUE TO ITS OUTPUT SECTION BEING DAMAGED. IN ANY CASE, ONCE REPAIRED, YOU MUST CHECK YOUR SPEAKERS FOR BURNED VOICE-COILS, WHICH WILL IMPOSE AN EXCESSIVE LOAD TO THE AMPLIFIER AND CAN CAUSE IT TO FAIL AGAIN. 5.1 willnot come up, 3/2 does.

Might sound silly, but have you checked the "A/B" speaker button on the front? it's easy to miss and it's a small button. The LCD display will light up "A" or "B" or "AB". Hope this helps, if not, post a comment and I can point you in the right direction, and/or help you diagnose a little deeper.
Protector push power - dvd home theater system
Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.
Causes that can start protect mode are:
Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.
Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.
Internal fault.
Internal
fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not
work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In
this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an
experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you
want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the
product documentation.
Regards.
Protect light
Protect means that an internal error, as a blown component, a short , or a wrong voltage had been detected.
Try unplugging the unot from all cables, including power cord, for ten minutes. If the unit is still on protection after restart, then you need to have the receiver taken apart and inspected by a technician.
