Sony STR-DE335 Receiver Questions & Answers
"Protect" Flashing
In all likelyhood, one or more output transistors have failed. Please confirm your model as STR-DE335 and I'll post the probable parts that need to be checked.

My reciever wont come out
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for
intermittent shutdown.
I have a receiver sony
What is happening is that you have a component about to fail. as the component heats up it becomes intermitant or open. You need to take it to a repair shop

Hello my sony audio/video control
PROTECT display indicates that receiver got serious problem in output amplifier section and protection mode is activated to avoid further damage.
Output amplifier section should be tested by qualified technician to find out and replace defective part(s) to solve this issue. Local repair shop will do this job as it is not user level repair.
Thanks.
While listening to the receiver
If the sound comes back on its own, the receiver may be overheating. Be sure that you follow the manufacturers instructions for how small the enclosure can be. One way to test this is to set the reiever up either on a hard table or on a solid floor where it will not have anything holding the heat near it, and air can flow around it. (make sure it's not in an area where it can fall or be stepped on)
