What do you meaqn "it won't work". ?? We need more information. This is a very simple EQ mounted reflector-- it must first be polar aligned-- and then all you need to do is put an eyepiece into the focuser and point it at an object in the night sky.

Is this a MEADE scope or a KONUS?

Only a Konus dealer will have a Konus manual-- however Meade has a list of all their manuals on this web site--

http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.html Look under the 4.5 inch REFLECTOR heading for one that is similar to your scope. They all assemble and are used in a similar fashion.

Only Meade will have replacement gears -- they are the only ones who sell these parts. Usually they want you to return the telescope for repair. Call them here:

Yes you can just make sure that the power cord has the CORRECT pin polarity- you can order the 12 volt cigarette lighter style cord from Meade.

Your scope probably uses 1.25 inch eyepieces-- any brand in that size will fit. (measure the hole and make sure it is 1.25 inch)

Here is a retailer that offers eyepieces from many different manufacturers.

and here is another one:

Meade should have the controller and cord.

http://www.meade.com/support/index.html Call them

Eyepieces can be purchased from many on-line suppliers. Here are two:

Why not buy a 12 volt power pack instead-- and the proper 12 volt cable from Meade. http://www.meade.com/support/index.html

Anyway-- Radio Shack has just about any type of battery holder you may need.

Do not buy that telescope. It is a tiny reflector style telescope, with a shaky tripod.

Instead look at one of these. Much more aperature and a stable Dobsonian mount.

http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=classicdobs/~pcategory=dobsonians/~product_id=09804

or the 6 inch size model.
