Meade 114EQDH4 (36 x 114mm) Telescope - Page 2 Questions & Answers
I bought and assembled telescope but we are new to
POINT THE END with the cap toward the sky. The mirror is on the bottom of the scope. Then put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser, practice focusing on a distant object during the day time.
Motors won't turn
Are the batteries FRESH? if they are you may have a bad motor. Contact Meade customer service:
http://www.meade.com/support/index.html
It sounds like BAD batteries. Try new ones first before sending it to Meade.
THE IMAGE IS BACKWORDS
Yes, all astronomical telescopes show a reverse image. You can buy an "erecting prism diagonal" to use for terrestrial viewing.
It's normal-- there is no up or down in space, and to erect the image just introduces more glass surfaces into the light path.
Putting it together
What kind of telescope???
What brand, any numbers written on it???
We need more information.
Rotate image so that it is not upside down
You will never be able to use the 3X barlow which TRIPLES the magnification of any eyepiece-- it's just too much for such a small scope. All astronomical telescopes have upside down images--- there is no up or down in space.
Piece of felt covering mirror, is this suppose to be there?
Here is the manual for your telescope--

The mirror at the bottom should NOT be covered-- with felt? Unless this was something Meade did to protect the mirror from dust and dirt during shipping?
I got this nextar 114 GT from garage sale, missing
Try here: http://www.nexstarsite.com/NSOL.htm.
That is the software that has been shipping with it. You'll also find lots of great information on the Nexstar Resource Site.
Other software such as Starry Night should work too.

I got a mead ds-114 telescope. & don't know how to use it!
the eye piece that came with your scope is too powerful... look on ebay or a site that sells telescopes. also look at the size of your eye piece holder... my ds-114 came with a 0.96 holder, these are an odd size.. the other size is 1.25 and the eye pieces are much easier to find. try looking at the moon when it is cresent shaped and start from there. if you have the autostar, you have to go through a set up sequence to start. then the scope will track the objects that you select on the goto function. don't give up!
