Sony RCD-W500C 5-Disc CD Recorder - Page 5 Questions & Answers
Plays fine on both decks, but does not record in
Check if the blank disc you are using is compatible. It sounds like the discs you are trying to record onto are not compatible with the unit OR you are trying to record in the wrong mode (Synchro v direct see below)
It will only record onto CD-R or CD-RW discs. Also read the instructions for recording as there are a number of recording modes depending on menu settings.

Displays 'data disk' when i try to record live
Hi,
it sounds to me like you are using a blank CDR/CDRW that you would use in a computer rather than a CDR Audio. The two types of discs are different and although you can use either in a PC to record on, on these "Home Burners", they will only record on the other type.
Try it .....
Blank cds/cdrs/cdrws, by brand & type,
Any disc with the official Compact Disc Digital Audio logo and the words "Recordable" or "Rewriteable". Make sure it says AUDIO as CD-R's for computer use will not be recordable on this unit, but the will play back if they contain CD audio or MP3 files (deck A only).
When u put a blank CD in it will say blank disc
I think your problem is that you are using a blank CDROM type disc in a CD Audio recorder. If you "burn" cds on a computer, it does not matter what type of cdr you use, but if it's for a stand alone CD Recorder (that you ise with hifi/dj stuff) you MUST use CDR AUDIO discs (sometinmes it will even say FOR MUSIC)
Display does not work
Either the power swtrip ribbon for the display power came off or shorted and or the display has burnt out
I don't have a problem.
This manual is available to download from several online sites not the least of which is Sony itself.
Google search RCD-W500C and a bunch will pop up.
Good Luck
After years of working fine
Mine was doing the same thing. I even posted the same question. Then after reading through other questions, I found that the discs I was using were CD-R that would only record on my PC. They are Data Discs. There is a different kind of CD-R and it is for music only and they are marked CD-R MUSIC. The little compact disc symbol on the package should read recordable underneath. I had not used mine in awhile and forgot to look for that on the package. Now mine works, Hope yours does too.
Cannot get it to record
What does it say for a reason? It requires blank media that have the word "music" or "audio" printed on them. It's in the manual.
This Sony manual is extremely difficult to
Hi,
There is simple way to record favorite tracks while listening then is to put recordable disc in deck B, press Rec and Pause button to get ready the unit to record, now put favorite cd in deck A and select the track that you want to record, play that track and press Pause button to start recording on disc in deck B, this way you can record one track of your own choice.
next method is to put 5 discs in deck A and mark all those tracks that you want to record through program feature and press record button to start recording, unit will playback that track while in recording, then recording will pause until unit finds out next marked track and recording begins again.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.
When i stick a blank
Use blank media with the words "audio" or "music" printed on them. It's in the manual.
How do you connect a sony cd recorder
usually to the TAPE out sockets[coax, optical,RCA,].Im assuming its not video capable.actually, any out sockets on the amp,and IN sockets on the recorder
I can't get the high or normal speed sychro
Could it be that you THINK there is no audio recorded because you can't hear it, but there may be a setting preventing the audio from emerging to a reciever or whatever you're listening through?
IOW: there is more to this than just the Sony. What happens if you take the CD somewhere else and try to play it?
Disc will not finalize, always
hello,Sounds like you lost power when you were finishing recording a disc. On
a home unit it got unplugged before you had the TOC written, or on a
battery unit the battery died when it was writing the TOC (table of
contents) for the disk.
so it's either you are not using the right CD for recording,so try go through your manual to see if they specify on the actual CD to use.it could be a CR-R i.e is a re writable disc.if the problem persist i will advice you contact sony because this has been a major problem on sony cd recorder.
wish you good luck,
take care.
