My tv is an older

All Sony sets have a duplicate label or labels inside the set; this would require unplugging the set and removing the back.

Older projection sets have for the most part model numbers beginning with KP (like KP 57ws500) and the newer ones have KDF etc.

If the white label on the back cannot be read you will have to open set and look for duplicate labels inside----much like cars where the vin number is in several places.

My power/standby red lite on

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.
Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I replaced my optical block on my Sony

Hi

Please check this link to get an idea about replacing optical block and see if all the settings inside have been done properly or not:-

http://www.ehow.com/how_7694194_replace-optical-block-sony-wega.html

However the blue CRT is most likely shorted and if the TV is more than a few years old, replacing all three tubes may be necessary.

If your Projection TV is rolling vertically or horizontally when you watch either cable or over the air broadcasts, try the following:

Make sure that all your cables are connected correctly and securely. For example, if you have mistakenly connected a Component output from a set top box to a standard video or AV input on your TV, the resulting picture will be distorted.

If you are watching over the air broadcasts, make sure your antenna is aimed so that you are receiving the strongest signal.

If you are watching standard cable, make sure that the cable is connected firmly at the wall jack and the back of the TV.

If you have a set top box that lets you adjust the output resolution (to 480p, 480i, 720p, or 1080i), make sure that the resolution you have chosen is compatible with the input jack to which you've attached the set top box.

Please get back to us if you have further query or else please accept the solution.

Probably the thermal fuse and the lamp is defective. I suggest you go to a TV repair to give you an estimate.

In my notes stored in this type of TV these parts were changed.

I have a Sony 60

Hello
According to your fault description, it should be due to increased "screen" voltage to projection tube I understands. As far as video is concerened, it is perfect in all respect; as you reports, the video processor IC has no trouble at all. The video processor IC of any type of TV will heat up to an extend and it is normal. If it overheats, it will either shut down for ever, or will come up again when the temperature comes down. Thin white lines across the screen, about an inch or apart, with a slight slanding position may cause by two reasons. If the Screen voltage of the CRT projection tubes is more than normal or filtering of secondary DC voltage that goes to video processin section is poor. The first one can be resolved by adjusting the screen voltage. There will be a screen control preset inside your TV, an adjustable one. Roate it clockwise will increse the screen voltage and vice versa.
Anyway, reset your TV to its factory settings first. The manual of it will contain details about how to do this. If you want anymore assistance from me, feel free to get be by FixYa. OK.

My Sony Wega 60" -

Lower tv resolutions modes like 480 or 720 i or p no problems?Yes,this tv just require some adjustments inside the tv micro nobes buttons on the tv main Tuner signal board. If this problems happen in the lower resolutions modes too.Tuner signal board itself it begin to causing a problems and slowly dying.I would hire a qualify and bounded tv tech. to do the check to the tv and for the adjustment because there are many micro nobes buttons on that board or if requirement of a replacement of the board itself, he have better sources getting these boards itself.

Try using a vacum with hose attachment and pull out any dust and dander out of not only the fan, but all the vents on the sides. Yes there is a thermal sensor that may be tripping the power.Hope this helps.
